Burlington's Lahey Health has a new healthcare partner.

According to a report in the Boston Globe, the medical facility announced on Tuesday that it has joined forces with Winchester Hospital. The newspaper reported that it is the latest example of smaller hospitals looking to join forces with bigger health care providers in a consolidating medical market.

The deal needs to be formally agreed upon, according to The Globe, but during Tuesday's announcement the hospital presidents said they're excited to expand their coverage area that spans from Massachusetts to New Hampshire.

"You don’t want to be left out if you’re a community hospital," health care attorney Ruselle W. Robinson told the Boston Globe. "The other part is you want to be able to have an integrated patient care model. You want to be able to better coordinate care and access electronic medical records across a network. The infrastructure costs money, and it matters that you’re part of a larger organization.”
