Whiz Kid: Burlington Hockey and Skating Association’s Free Skate 6 Class

Local skaters performed at the BHSA skate show this weekend.

Whiz Kid's Name(s), Age(s): Marisa Sunnerberg, Noelle Romano, Juliana Purvis, Kelsey O’Brien, Courtney Roche, Christina Clark, Elizabeth Abrevaya, Rachel Carlino. Whiz Kid's School/Church/Community Center: This is Burlington Hockey and Skating Association’s Free Skate 6 class. These young figure skaters have been working tirelessly on their solo skating routines and performed this weekend at the annual BHSA skate show on Saturday, April 2, and  Sunday, April 3. Whiz Kids

Whiz Kid: Burlington High School Football Cheerleaders

The Burlington High School Football Cheerleaders have won 7 consecutive state championships.

Patch Whiz Kid/Team/Club of the Week: Burlington High School Football Cheerleaders       Whiz Kid's Age:  14-18  Whiz Kid's School/Church/Community Center: Burlington High School  Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: 7th consecutive Mass State Championship title  Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?)  Their dedication and determination and advanced skills coached by Courtney Vadala is what has made them so successful.  They have continually won their league and  most of their regional competitions for the past 7 years.  They are most likely the only team in Massachusetts to have won 7 consecutive State Championships.

Local Girl Scout Troop makes Valentine's Day cards for Meals on Wheels.

Patch Whiz Kid/Team/Club of the Week: Girl Scout Troop 71575 Whiz Kid's Name(s), Age(s): Emily Sateriale, Jillian Sullivan, Kayla Lancaster, Christina Purvis, Erin Dorney, Josephine Samarjian, Alyssa Healey, Marin Campbell (All ages 11 - 12 years old) Whiz Kid's School/Church/Community Center: Marshal Simonds Middle School, grade 6 Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: It was Emily's turn to run a Girl Scout meeting for her troop (she is a Cadet and each turn runs one meeting per month). She wanted to do something "crafty" because all the girls love those type of projects. Emily went  one step further and the girls made Valentine Cards (60) and Hershey Kiss favors (60) for the Burlington Council on Aging to deliver one of each on all the trays going …

Patch Whiz Kid/Team/Club of the Week: Zach Hurnyowicz Whiz Kid's Name(s), Age(s): Zach Hurnyowicz, 18, Whiz Kid's School/Church/Community Center: Burlington High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Zach hit the 1,000 point mark this season, the first Burlington player to do so in 30 years. Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: How does one score 1,000 during a high school basketball career? Zach put it best when he said "I didn't have 1,000 points as a goal. I just went out and played every game as hard as I could."
