Shaw's and Star Market to Donate $100K to The One Fund Boston

Shoppers will also be able to donate to the fund through an in-store fundraising campaign.

  Shaw's and Star Market announced last week it will donate $100,000 to The One Fund Boston, the foundation collecting money to support victims of the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings.  In a press release issued last week, the supermarket chain also announced it is launching an in-store fundraising campaign where customers can donate to The One Fund Boston. Shoppers will be able to contribute any amount to the fund during checkout and all proceeds will go directly to The One Fund. Shaw's to be Sold in $3.3 Billion - How Will this Affect Our Local Grocery Stores?

No immediate changes planned, but store leases could eventually be sold, analysts say.

The new owners of local Star Market and Shaw's supermarkets say no immediate changes are planned for the stores. There is a Shaw's on the corner of Cambridge Street and Winn Street in Burlington.  According to the Boston Globe, there are 155 Shaw's and 14 Star Markets with 17,000 employees. In November the troubled company had announced cutting 700 jobs. The new owners, an investor group led by Cerberus Capital Management, bought the stores as part of a bigger $3.3 billion deal. Cerberus also controls the locally based Steward Health Care System network of community hospitals.  The Boston Herald says Albertson's will take over all the New England Shaw's and Star Markets. Albertson's is located in Florida, also. In by gone years, Star Market was always my favorite. Roche Bros. is my choice now; clean, atmosphere friendly and well stocked. When a grocery store becomes so large that it's like walking a marathon to shop, it's off my list. : )   more ›

Buy a Pie and Support the Burlington Food Pantry

Cub Scout Troop 555 will be collecting pies and monetary donations outside of Shaws this Saturday to benefit the Burlington Food Pantry.

This Saturday purchase a pie or make a donation to help every family in Burlington have a happy Thanksgiving. Cub Scout Pack 555 will be out this Saturday at Shaws of Burlington, 180 Cambridge St., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect pies and cash donations.  The pies and donations will be delivered that afternoon to the UCC Church where complete Thanksgiving meals are being prepared for those in need. Pack 555 consists of 1st-5th grade boys from Francis Wyman and Memorial Elementary Schools of Burlington.  This event involves the Scouts soliciting Shaws' customers to either donate a Fresh Fruit Pie or money that in turn is given to the Burlington food pantry, People Helping People.  Each year they put together all the ingredients of a full …
