Long Distance Families - Using Technology to Stay in Touch

How technology can help us keep in touch and keep up to date with family and friends

Most of us have family members living distances away that prevent frequent visits.  In the last year a few important people in our lives have moved a plane ride away from us (how dare they!).  And while visits occur here and there, money and time constraints mean that in-person get-togethers are not as common as we would like. Especially as we have started expanding our family, it’s important for us to keep our son close to the people we love.  Modern technology has made it easier than ever to keep in touch with long distance family and friends. Services like Skype or Google Video Chat allow people to make free, easy calls while also viewing the person on a computer screen.  We have spent many afternoons on Skype with our son’s aunt, who …

Holidays like Mother’s or Father’s Day sometimes take a lot of flak for being “Hallmark holidays.”  Did the greeting card companies invent these days to honor our mother and father? Are we indulging commercialism when we send Mom a bouquet of flowers?  I’ve always suspected there was more to it than that. Mother’s Day means a lot to many families and gives children the perfect occasion to say “Thank You” to Mom for all that she does. So where does the tradition of Mother’s Day come from? Sun Safety - More Than Just Sun Block

Protecting your little ones from harmful rays

It may seem a little early in the season to be talking about sun protection, as the thermometer barely reaches 50 degrees on a blustery April day.  But unless you’re living in a cave, the sun should be a year-round concern no matter what the temperature reads.  It’s especially important for our little ones, who have thin, sensitive skin more prone to the dangers of the sun’s rays.  Whether it’s at the beach or in the mountains, going for a stroll or playing in the backyard, protection from the sun should always be taken into account before venturing outdoors.
