Aly Raisman named a Bostonian of the Year

Along with Kayla Harrison, two Mass. Olympians are named this year's Boston.com Bostonians of the Year. Aly's mom also had her 15 Minutes of Fame, according to Time.

Aly Raisman is among the most famous Needham residents, and is getting a shout-out from Boston.com as well. The Gold-medal winning Olympic gymnast tranied at the Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club in Burlington. Their year in review piece from earlier today names her and fellow Olympian Kayla Harrison as Bostonians of the Year, along with a review of her performance at the TD Garden earlier in the year.  From the piece, "The crowd of 16,000 bathes Gabby Douglas and the other golden girls in warm cheer, but saves their screams for the 18-year-old pride of Needham."  Picking up a gold medal in Gymnastics, the team captain was given a welcome home worthy of an Olympian after the London 2012 Olympics, complete with parade and an Aly Rally.  …

Olympian Aly Raisman Injured at California Show

The Olympic gymnast from Needham reportedly fell from the uneven bars during a weekend performance.

Needham Olympian Aly Raisman and teammate McKayla Maroney were injured after they fell from the uneven bars while performing in the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions in California over the weekend, WCVB reports. Raisman fell onto her stomach during her routine on the uneven bars, according to WCVB, but was able to walk out of the arena. But Maroney, who reportedly fell while she was trying to land a dismount during her uneven bars routine, had to be carried from the room by medics. Neither of the two gymnasts were featured in the show's finale, according to WCVB. The WCVB report also stated that a source had confirmed that Raisman was OK and was in San Diego.
