Local YMCA Offering Free Sexual Abuse Prevention Training

North Suburban YMCA has partnered with Darkness to Light to bring a free sexual abuse training prevention program, Stewards of Children.

  The local YMCA is teaming up with sexual abuse prevention experts to train local groups and parents to help protect children. According to Katie Stinchon of the YMCA of Greater Boston the statistics on sexual abuse are alarming. She said 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthday. In response, the North Suburban YMCA has partnered with Darkness to Light to bring a free sexual abuse training prevention program, Stewards of Children, to Woburn, Winchester, Burlington, Arlington, and Lexington residents, according to a release. Waltham Woman's Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Dismissed

Rosanne Sliney had claimed her uncle sexually abused her.

A Burlington woman’s sexual abuse lawsuit against her uncle has been dismissed. Rosanne Sliney, who grew up in Waltham but now lives in Burlington, filed a lawsuit earlier this year alleging her uncle, Domenic Previte, sexually abuse her when she was a child. But, Middlesex Superior Court Judge Thomas R. Murtaugh on June 27 allowed Previte's motion to dismiss the case, according to Sliney’s attorney, Carmen Durso. Murtaugh cited the three year statute of limiations as the reason for dismissing the lawsuit. Sliney plans to appeal the decision, according to Durso. “This ruling is an example of why we have to continue our efforts, and work more vigorously to convince the Massachusetts Legislature to make changes in the law, so that future …
