Burlington Selectman Walter Zenkin said he intends to represent 21st Middlesex with "integrity and common sense."
Burlington Selectman Walter T. Zenkin formally declared his candidacy to represent the 21stMiddlesex District in the state legislature, looking to fill the seat recently left vacant by Charles Murphy. The 21st Middlesex District includes Zenkin’s hometown of Burlington as well as Bedford and Precinct 3 of Wilmington on the Republican ballot. “It’s time for the legislature to focus on our needs,” stated Zenkin in a press release. “For too long the needs of hard working people in Burlington, Bedford and Wilmington have been ignored. We must firmly reject the culture of corruption that exists on Beacon Hill and repudiate practices that favor the politically connected few. It’s time to bring common sense and integrity back to state government…

The Boston Herald reported yesterday that Rep. Charley Murphy split with House leadership over the MBTA issue.
State Rep. Charley Murphy, D-Burlington, is speaking up against the leadership on Beacon Hill. According to the Boston Herald, Murphy broke with House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo on the issue of how to fund continued services in the MBTA in the face of potential cuts, suggesting that his colleagues on the Hill consider an increase in the gas tax or a regional payroll tax. According to the Herald, DeLeo stated in an address before the House not to raise any additional taxes for the MBTA. This is not the first time in recent history that there has been tension between Murphy and the speaker. The following is a press release from the Walker School in Needham: Legislators from Greater Boston attended a meeting on Feb. 5 at the Walker School in Needham to discuss legislative and budget issues pertaining to Chapter 766—private special education schools. The Walker School, where the meeting was held, is an academic day and residential program for children with high-risk behaviors, chronic mental illness, language disorders, learning disabilities and/or high-functioning autism spectrum disorders.
