The following is a release from Nordstrom Rack in the Middlesex Commons: Nordstrom Rack to hold a child safety and identification program with the Burlington Police Department today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is called the Amber Alert ID, and it was created to combat child abductions. The first few hours are critical when a child has been reported missing, and the National Amber Alert website states that there are 159 non family related abductions that occur every day across the country, which is 1 child every 4 ½ minutes. We are partnering with the Burlington Police Department, the Burlington Rotary club and the Avon CT rotary club from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. this Saturday to conduct this event. Thursday September 8th was no ordinary day for shopping enthusiasts in Burlington. It was the opening of a new Nordstrom Rack at the Middlesex Commons Mall near H-Mart. Patch photographer Sue Bruce arrived just before 8 a.m., and was ninth person in line. The first person, showing true dedication, had been waiting since 4.30 a.m. Shoppers filled in entries to win a $2000 / 90 second dash around the new store before the doors officially opened. The drawing was won by a young lady who was greeted enthusiastically by staff waiting inside. Catering was provided by Roxy's Grilled Cheese and Kick-Ass Cupcakes and umbrella's were handed out so shoppers could get hot coffee and breakfast without getting too wet.
