Police: Missing Woman Found Half-Mile from Assisted Living Facility

The Burlington Police Department has issued an update on this morning's search for a missing woman.

The Burlington Police Department has issued a statement updating the public on this morning's succesful search for a 70-year-old woman with mild dimensia who was reported missing from the Sunrise Assisted Living Facility. According to police, on January 11, 2013 at 5:32 a.m. the Burlington Police Department received a telephone call from the Sunrise Assisted Living Facility located at 24 Mall Road regarding a missing elderly woman. Initial reports stated that the 70 year old female suffered from mild dementia and had last been seen at 5 a.m. Burlington Police Officers responded to the assisted living facility and began a search of the building and the area surrounding the facility, the release continues. Updated: Two Killed in Dec. 20 Mall Road Accident

Chief Yetman of the Burlington Fire Department informed the public today that two people died in the Dec. 20 accident on Mall Road.

Updated 6 p.m. Fire Chief Steven Yetman has provided a couple of additional details on the victims of yesterday's crash. The driver was a 72 year old male. The passenger was an 88 year old female from Boston. Yetman said the names will not be released at this time. Updated 12:58 p.m. Two people have passed away as a result of injuries sustained in yesterday's accident at 25 Mall Road. Chief Steven Yetman of the Burlington Fire Department told Patch today that the two people, and elderly driver and passenger, who sustained injuries and were transported to Lahey Clinic have died as a result of their injuries. The names of the victims have not yet been released. The driver of the other vehicle involved was not seriously injured and refused …

Updated: Two Injured in Serious Mall Road Accident

Burlington Police tweeted that there has been an accident on Mall Road that is causing traffic delays.

Updated 7:50 p.m. Captain John Corbatt of the Burlington Fire Department told Patch that two people were transported to Lahey Clinic following this afternoon's accident on Mall Road. Corbatt said the accident involved two vehicles and the injured parties were both in the same vehicle. The occupant of the second vehicle was not injured. Corbatt said he did not have the details to the extent of the injuries suffered by those transported to the hospital. Finally, the rumors circulated on Twitter that a pedestrian may have been involved are false, Corbatt said. Reports of Bank Robbery on Mall Road

There are scanner reports that the Brookline Bank on Mall Road has been robbed.

UPDATED, 11:44 a.m.: Wilmington Police have responded and a K-9 unit is searching the area, according to Burlington Patch Editor Richard Hosford. ------------------------- There are reports of a robbery of the Brookline Bank at 72 Mall Road. According to scanner traffic and tweets from Mike Moura and Alertnewengland, locals who follow police and fire scanners, a suspect described as a white male with a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and sunglasses fled the bank towards the Burlington Mall. Accident on Mall Road - Expect Delays

Burlington Police confirmed an accident on Mall Road involving a vehicle and poll is causing traffic delays.

Burlington Police confirmed that an accident on Mall Road is causing back-ups as a telephone poll has been knocked over. Emergency crews are responding to the scene. At about 5 p.m. the accident was reported on Twitter by Mike Maura, a local who follows emergency scanners. He stated: Car into a pole on Mall Road. Pole across the road and on top of a vehicle. Roadway shutdown. Police said the road is not completely shut down but the incident is causing delays during an already busy time for the area. We do not have information on whether anyone was injured. We will update as more information becomes available.

No People Injured in this Morning's Deer Strike; How About the Deer?

An accident involving a motor vehicle and a deer caused some back-up on Mall Road late this morning.

Burlington Police confirmed to Patch this afternoon that an accident involving a motor vehicle and a deer near Lahey Clinic on Mall Road left nobody injured. According to police the occupants of the vehicle that struck the animal were all uninjured. The animal, after being fazed, also walked away from the scene. According to reports on Twitter, people on-scene attempted to assist the animal before it got up and walked away. Has anyone seen deer near the road in the Mall Road area? Traffic Advisory: Work Being Done in South Bedford Street Area

The following is a release sent from the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce by John Sanchez, Burlington Superintendent of Public Works: John Sanchez, Superintendent of Public Works, asked the Chamber to inform the membership of the following Traffic Advisory due to work being done related to the installation of the sewer force main from Terrace Hall to South Bedford Street. Traffic patterns through the construction zone on Burlington Mall Road between Stony Brook Road and South Bedford Street will change slightly.   The current traffic zone will be used; the eastbound lane between South Bedford Street and Stony Brook Road will be closed and the westbound lane will be split to allow 2-way traffic. Work on Mall Road to be Completed by Holiday Shopping Season

There are currently three projects at the Mall Road and South Bedford Street intersection.

Commuters in Burlington have likely noticed a new delay in the flow of traffic. Those attempting to travel down Mall Road in the direction of Cambridge Street are hitting roadwork at the South Bedford Street intersection. The area is normally backed up even without ongoing work and especially so during the holiday shopping season. So, a reasonable question would be, 'how long until this is all cleared up"? Department of Public Works Superintendent John Sanchez told Patch the work being done is actually three separate projects. One is a gas pipe being done by a utility company. Is This Intersection Unnecessarily Dangerous?

A Burlington resident is raising concerns of the crossing walk between the Mall Road plaza and New England Executive Park.

A Burlington resident has been raising concerns about the safety of pedestrians crossing between New England Executive Park and the plaza across the street that houses b.good Burgers, Starbucks and Yeh! Frozen Yogurt among other businesses. The resident who has raised the issue asked not to be named in this story. The main concern is that the intersection does not have a set of pedestrian lights or anyway for people crossing the street to get a right of way to cross. There were buttons for a crossing light on the posts, which Town Engineer Thomas Hayes said were never connected to the traffic lights. The buttons have been removed since last week, a move Hayes said was to stop "confusion" among those attempting to cross.  The concerned …

They should really consider using a zebra crossing type of crosswalks in that area (or really, townwide). The parallel lines are okay, but the zebra stripes are much more visible and make drivers more aware of pedestrians.   more ›
