Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled for Today, Tomorrow

The Massachusetts State Police will be conducting a motor vehicle sobriety checkpoint Friday, March 22 into Saturday, March 23, somewhere within Middlesex County, according to a state police press release. Police will be stopping vehicles to find potentially drunk drivers between somewhere in Middlesex County, which includes Burlington. As is normal practice, police do not disclose the hours or locations of the checkpoints. Middlesex County Second Healthiest in Mass., Says Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

Among Massachusetts' 14 counties, only Dukes County was healthier according to the study.

Is Middlesex County the healthiest place in Massachusetts to live? If not, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation says it's right up there. In a recent study done by the Foundation called "County Health Rankings and Roadmaps," Middlesex ended up second in the state, trailing only Dukes County overall. Even there, Middlesex County exceeded Dukes in some areas such as patient to doctor and patient to dentist ratios. In measures ranging from adult obesity and insurance coverage to premature death and teen birth rates, Middlesex County was at or exceeding the state average. While much has been made written on how the current sequestration battle in Washington could affect the national economy, these numbers are meant to give readers a sense of the sequestration at the local level. Middlesex Sheriff Announces New Crime-Fighting Tool

Local police agencies will now have access to more information on prison inmates.

  Middlesex County law enforcement agencies now have an additional tool to fight crime - more and easier access to information about prison inmates.  The Middlesex County Sheriff's office recently unveiled MIDNet, the Massachusetts Inmate Data Network, which allows police officers to access information on inmates in hopes of bolstering public safety, according to the Sheriff's office.  MIDNet allows officers to find information on an inmate's status, charges, identifying marks, aliases and other information from other correctional facilities, including state Department of Correction facilties.
