Fire Department: Hazmat at Keurig Building Last Night

There was a vapor cloud of liquid nitrogen filling the air around the building for the incoming Keurig Headquarters last night.

Burlington Fire Department personnel responded to a hazardous material situation at the building for the new Keurig headquarters at 63 South Avenue last night. Chief Steve Yetman said the call came in around 9:30 p.m. of a vapor cloud forming in the rear of the building. Emergency crews, led by Captain Scott Carpenter, assessed the situation and determined that the cloud was liquid nitrogen, which Yetman said is a cryogenic liquid with a temperature of -375 degrees. Yetman said the vapor cloud made approximately a 50-foot circle around the tank. He added that tanks that hold gases such as liquid nitrogen have a safety release if the pressure builds up too much. This is disturbing....Patch - is this type of gas regulated by our Board of Health? Liquid Nitrogen can explode if the pressure is not properly regulated.... Is this tank the property of Keurig???   more ›

Burlington Awarded $1 Million Grant for Road Improvements

The grant will fund work on Middlesex Turnpike to help mitigate the traffic that will be created by the relocation of the Keurig headquarters to town.

Burlington has been awarded a $1 million grant from the state for roadwork improvements on Middlesex Turnpike. According to a release from Gov. Deval Patrick's office, the MassWorks grant will be used to support roadway improvements to Middlesex Turnpike, Second Avenue and South Avenue to support the consolidation of Keurig Company’s current Massachusetts workforce to its new site. According to the Patrick-Murray Administration a total of $38 million for 26 new MassWorks Infrastructure Program grants were announced to support economic development and housing creation throughout the Commonwealth. Keurig Relocating to Burlington

Green Mountain Coffee announced earlier today that it is moving the Keurig Inc. headquarters to Burlington.

After months of negotiations that included the passage of a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) agreement by Town Meeting last month, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, the parent company of Keurig, has decided to move its headquarters from Reading to Burlington.  As reported by Patch, Town Meeting members voted 93 to 7 to approve the Tax Increment Financing agreement with the town that would save the company an estimated $3,256,352 over 15 years in an attempt to lure the company to Burlington during the annual May Town Meeting. Town leaders supported the TIF agreement for a variety of reasons. Keurig Passes Easily at Town Meeting

Town Meeting members voted 93 to 7 to approve the proposed Tax Incentive Finance deal with the K-Cup makers for its headquarters move.

The relocation of Keurig's headquarters from Reading to Burlington took a big step towards becoming a done deal at Town Meeting last night. Members voted 93 to 7 to approve the Tax Increment Financing agreement with the town that would save the company an estimated $3,256,352 over 15 years. As reported on Patch, Keurig is looking to find a larger facility for its headquarters. Currently Keurig has a base of operations in Reading and offices in other New England states. Keurig is looking to close the office locations, including the Reading office, and move to a new location. Keurig Talks Tax Incentive in Lead Up to Town Meeting (Poll)

Representatives from Keurig, the company behind the K-Cup coffee makers that is considering moving its headquarters from Reading to Burlington, met with Town Meeting members and residents last week to talk one of the two constants of the universe: taxes. The meeting was to bring residents and Town Meeting representatives up-to-date on a proposed Tax Increment Financing agreement with the town that would save the company an estimated $3,256,352 over 15 years. The proposal is on the May 2012 Town Meeting warrant. Town Meeting kicked off this past Monday and the Keurig agreement is the 13th warrant article. Keurig to Speak with Burlington Residents Tomorrow

The company that makes the famous coffee machine will host an information session at Town Hall tomorrow from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The following is a press release from Keurig in regards to the companies possible move to Burlington and the proposed Tax Increment Financing (TIF) agreement with the town: Keurig will be holding an information session at Burlington Town Hall on Tuesday, May 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Keurig, Incorporated ("Keurig") is a technology company in the coffee category.
