The no. 21 ranked Winchester High School girls' hockey team lost to no. 12 Burlington 3-1 Monday night in the preliminary round of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament.
The no. 12 ranked Burlington High School girls hockey team beat out the no. 21 ranked Winchester team 3-1 Monday night at Burlington in the preliminary round of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament, according to the Boston Globe website. Burlington (12-7-1) advances to the second round of the North Division 2 tournament to take on no. 5 ranked Gardner (11-4-2). A time and location for the second-round game have yet to be determined. Winchester ended the season having lost four consecutive games, with their last non-loss being a 1-1 tie against Woburn at home Feb. 6. Winchester's last win was a 5-0 blanking of Belmont in Winchester Feb. 2.

Jay Pandolfo, of Burlington, has been signed to the Bruins for one year.
A former Burlington High Schools student and hockey players has been signed with the Boston Bruins. Boston.com reported on Tuesday that Jay Pandolfo, of Burlington, was signed with the Bruins for a one year contract. The contract is a "two-way deal," meaning Pandolfo will be payed $600,000 while playing for the Boston Bruins and $350,000 if he plays with the seed team the Providence Bruins. According to his Wikipedia page, Pandolfo was born in Winchester and grew up in Burlington. He played for the BHS Red Devils and graduated in with the Class of 1992. He was also a member of the Burlington Hockey and Skating Association's Massachusetts 1998 state champion team for the Bantam age group. That team placed fifth in the US National tournament…

Hood Attended the April 9 Ceremony at The Sports Museum at TD Garden in Boston.
Brian Hood from Burlington was chosen as a 2012 Hobey Baker High School Character Award Recipient. Hood was a member of the Burlington High School boys varsity hockey team that on March 18 beat out Milton High to become the Division 1 Champions in a game at Boston’s TD Garden. Each year, local high school hockey players are honored with the Hobey Baker High School Character Award. Burlington takes Division I North Title With a 4-2 Win Over Wakefield
The Burlington High boys hockey team is headed for a Garden party. Burlington High lived up to its No. 1 seed as they topped Wakefield tonight 4-2 in the Division 1 North Sectional Championship at the Tsongas Center in Lowell. The Red Devils will now take on South champs Milton at TD Garden on Sunday. The starting time is still TBA. Burlington struck first with 4:18 left in the opener, when Joe Scali beat the Warriors Joe Cerulo to open the scoring. Dan Metzdorf and Joe Moran picked up the assists. The Red Devils (16-1-6) jumped all over their rivals and co-champs from the Middlesex League Small School Division in the second stanza, scoring three goals to put this one away. Today's Patch Snap comes from a supporter of the Woburn Lady Tanners U12 Hockey, a team made up of Woburn and Burlington youngsters. The Woburn Lady Tanners U12 Hockey team participated in the Bill Chase Holiday Tournament over Martin Luther King Day Weekend where they play 3 games winning 3-0 versus Natick Comets, 2-1 versus Nashua Panthers and 5-2 versus Walpole Express. In the final game against Natick Comets they won 6-3. The team is coached by Colleen Sanborn, Chrissy Conceison and Rob Hammond. Dan McMahon and Brian Hood scored early goals but it was not enough to hold St. Mary's.
After racing out to a two goal lead, the Burlington hockey team could not hold on to the lead, ultimately falling 5-2 against St. Mary’s of Lynn on Saturday afternoon. The game got out to a good start when Dan McMahon scored just 2:03 into the game on the power-play. He backhanded the puck over the St. Mary’s goalies shoulder after circling around from the back of the net. Captain Chris Irwin and sophomore RJ Caruso picked up assists on the goal. The goal would standup and Burlington took a 1-0 into the first intermission. Burlington got on the board first in the second period when Brian Hood scored. Burlington put a lot of traffic in front of the net and the puck squirted out to Hood who shot the puck past the goalie for the 2-0 …

A look back at the week that was in Burlington High School athletics.
Well folks, we have officially made it to the 2010-2011 winter sports post season as a few of the Red Devils’ squads began their quests for a Massachusetts state championship. The Burlington High School boys’ basketball and hockey teams kicked off tournament play this past week, and both performed admirably, coming out with impressive wins. Boys Basketball The 12th seeded Red Devils were on the road Tuesday night, playing the role of underdog as they took on the favored 5th seeded Salem High School Witches. The Witches were the defending Division One North champions, and were looking to make their second consecutive trip to the title game in 2011. Burlington beat Andover 3-1 on Wednesday night in the first round of the Division 1 North Hockey Tournament, using a proven blueprint for success, play great defense in your own end and rely on your top line to do the scoring. That top line of Brett Romkey, Joe Berardi and Brian Hood notched two of the Red Devils three goals as the team punched their ticket to the next round. Burlington came out and controlled the game early on, playing with most of the early action taking place in Andover’s zone, outshooting them 8-1 midway through the first period. For the fifth consecutive year the Burlington Red Devil hockey team has won the Ed Cahoon Tournament, an end of the year tilt of which they are the host team, by beating Framingham 4-3 on Thursday night. Burlington has now won the tournament seven times in its 19 year history and will hope to carry this momentum into the state tournament which is set to begin next week. The Red Devils found themselves in an early hole after Framingham defenseman Zealin Cronk scored on a shot from the point just 1:21 into the game to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. If you were watching the game Burlington controlled the play in the first period. They controlled the play in the second and third with multiple shots on net. They lost to a team that captured the momentum and no one denies that they won. so what is your issue with the shot total?
