The Girl Scouts celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the organization this month and the selectman celebrated all the organization does for the community and the girls involved.
Last night's Burlington Board of Selectmen meeting began with a special recognition of the history of the Girl Scouts and four local scouts were on hand to recite a pledge and receive new levels within the organization. Selectman Robert Hogan read a proclamation in honor of the Girl Scouts, acknowledging the great work the organization does both in the community and for the girls and young women who participate in it. The special honor was also in celebration of the 100-Year Anniversary of the Girl Scouts. Today's Patch Snap comes from the MSMS Girl Scout Troop 77245. This month members of the Marshall Simonds Middle School Girl Scout Troop 77245 are collecting new and gently used pants for sizes newborn to 18/20 from March 1st to 31st at each elementary and middle school lobby. The effort is to benefit Cradles to Crayons, an organization that will distribute the pants to local children in need. Pictured here are a few of the troop members. Burlington Girl Scouts Host Their First Annual Rope Runners Competition
Rope Runners, the Girl Scout‘s answer to the Pinewood Derby, is coming to Burlington. Burlington’s fourth and fifth grade Girl Scout troops will be participating in the town’s first Rope Runners Race on Sunday, March 27th at the Fox Hill Elementary School from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Rope Runners are simple wooden figures that balance on a single wheel and race along 1/8 inch nylon ropes. The participants construct their Rope Runners from a kit and then decorate them according to their own design. Rope runners can be as simple as a wooden box with weights, wheel and axel, or they can be as elaborate as their creators’ dreams. They are limited only by the imaginations of their designers.
