Pelgro Named Acting Middlesex DA

Gov. Patrick plans to name Gerry Leone's permanent successor next week.

Gov. Deval Patrick has named First Assistant District Attorney Michael Pelgro as the acting Middlesex County District Attorney to replace Gerry Leone.  Patrick, who made the announcement in a statement on Friday, April 12, plans to announce a permanent appointment to fill out Leone's term next week, according to the Lowell Sun. Voters will elect a new DA in the biennial election in 2014.  In January, Leone announced he would not seek a third term. In March, Leone announced he would join a private law firm. Middlesex D.A. Gerry Leone to Step Down, Will Join Scott Brown at Law Firm

Leone will join the law firm of Nixon Peabody on April 29.

  Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone is stepping down from his office to join the law firm of Nixon Peabody, the same firm former Sen. Scott Brown earlier this month said he was joining. An announcement from Nixon Peabody says Leone will join the firm as a partner in the government investigations and white collar defense practice beginning April 29. A woman at the Middlesex District Attorney's office confirmed the news, but did not have further details. Leone was first elected as Middlesex district attorney in 2006, and his current term in office was up in 2014. He previously stated he would not run for reelection at the end of his term. John Kerry, who was just approved as the next Secretary of State, stopped by the Middlesex District Attorney's office in Woburn yesterday for a visit.

  The Middlesex District Attorney's office had a special guest on Thursday. Middlesex DA Gerry Leone welcomed John Kerry, who on Tuesday was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the next Secretary of State. Kerry was a senator for Massachusetts from 1985 until his resignation to take up his new position earlier this week. The stop was part of a tour Kerry is taking around the state as he prepares to take on his new responsibilities. His choice to stop by the Middlesex District Attorney's office was also a chance to catch up on an old place of employment. $1 Million Lottery Winner Convicted of Stealing from Burlington and Area Residents

The owner of a Chelmsford oil service company pleaded guilty to charges of taking deposits from elderly customers for work that was never completed.

The owner of a Chelmsford oil service company pleaded guilty for taking deposits from clients for work and repairs which were never performed, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone announced this week. According to Leone's office, Michael Santaniello, 60, of Chelmsford, pleaded guilty in Lowell District Court to charges of larceny over $250 from a person over 60 years of age (4 counts), larceny over $250 (6 counts), larceny by check over $250, larceny over $250 by false pretenses, and failure to return leased personalty. The victims in this case are residents of Burlington, Chelmsford, Billerica, Lexington, Wilmington, Somerville, Bedford and Westford. Lowell District Court Judge Lynn Rooney sentenced the defendant to 2 ½ years in the …

Middlesex Sheriff Responds to Inquiries On Political Future

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian issued a statement on Jan. 11 in response to inquiries on whether he would run for the Middlesex DA's seat.

Middlesex County DA Announces He Won't Seek Third Term

Leone said he has no specific plans after he leaves office.

Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone has announced he will not seek a third term in 2014, according to his office. Leone made the announcement during an awards ceremony with his staff on Jan. 10 “These decisions are, and should be, predicated upon what is best for the person and their family. What is best for me and my family is that I not seek another term. As someone who is much smarter than I am once said, ‘I must be willing to give up what I am, in order to become what I will be.’ Other than a husband and father, I am not yet sure what that will be when I am no longer a District Attorney,” Leone said in a statement. DA: Daughter's Friend Watched Stabbing Attack Live on Webcam

According to the district attorney's office a friend of the couple's 15-year-old daughter saw the attack, heard Pulisciano yell "Chris, please stop, I love you."

Christopher Piantedosi, 39, was in Woburn District Court for an arraignment on charges that he stabbed his long-time girlfriend Kristen Pulisciano in her home last Thursday evening. During the arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Nicole Allain provided new information on the case, including that the defendant and victim's 15-year-old daughter was home during the attack and that one of her friends saw the incident live on a web chat through an iPad. "The 9-1-1 call came from the 15-year-old daughter who reported that her father stabbed her mother," Allain said. "Officers entered the side door of the home and found the body and a bloody knife." Burlington Stabbing Suspect in Custody, Arraignment Monday [Videos]

Christopher Piantedosi turned himself in to authorities at the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Weston shortly before 1:00 p.m.

The man wanted in connection with last evening’s stabbing death in Burlington has been taken into custody, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone and Burlington Police Chief Michael Kent informed the public today. During a press conference at the Middlesex DA's office in Woburn, Leone informed reporters that Christopher Piantedosi, 39,  who had been living in Methuen, turned himself to State Police shortly before 1:00 p.m. Leone said the suspect was identified by a trooper and placed under arrest. An arrest warrant was issued early this morning for Piantedosi for one count of murder. After turning himself in, Piantedosi was transported to the Burlington Police Department, Leone said. Authorities Searching for Suspect in Burlington Homicide

Arrest warrant issued this morning for Christopher Piantedosi.

The following is a release from Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone's office concerning last night's homicide on Forbes Avenue: Authorities have issued a BOLO (“Be on the look out”) for a man wanted in connection with last evening’s homicide in Burlington, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone and Burlington Police Chief Michael Kent informed the public today.
