The nation's highest court will rule on cases from California and New York.
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear the case of California's ban on gay marriage, which could be a landmark ruling for gay marriage nationwide, according to the Associated Press. The court said today it will also review a federal appeals ruling that struck down the state's ban on gay marriage and whether Congress can stop married gay couples from receiving the same benefits a heterosexual couple may receive, says the New York Times. Currently, the Defense of Marriage Act limits such benefits for same-sex couples including pension and health benefits, says the AP.

The backlash over Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy's statement that he supported "the traditional family" last week continues. As reported on Huffington Post and carried on Patch, Cathy stated the restaurant business holds to traditional values in regards to homosexuality. "We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives," Cathy was quoted as saying. "We give God thanks for that...we know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles." Announcement represents reversal of Obama's prior position.
In an interview with ABC News, President Obama said he now supports gay marriage. The announcement represents a reversal of his prior stance against gay marriage, according to ABC News. Obama is the first president to endorse the rights of gay individuals to marry. "It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married," Obama told ABC News in an interview taped at the White House today. Excerpts of the interview will air tonight at 6:30 p.m. on ABC News. Of course, gay marriage is already legal in Massachusetts. One of the reasons Choakley lost to Brown is that the majority of MA voters are fed up with our elected LeaKers. Both in the State House and DC! SS Marriage was not acted upon by the DNC State house majority (legislative) so as to not risk re-election. This inaction provided the MA Supreme Court (judicial) to MAKE LAW.
