Gas Prices Surge More Than 30 Cents in a Month; Are you Driving Less?

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline has risen to $3.81 in Burlington over the past month.

  Gas prices in Burlington continue their upward march, with prices reaching the highest point ever in February and up more than a quarter in the past month. AAA Southern New England said its survey of prices in Massachusetts on Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.72 per gallon, four cents higher than a week ago and up 31 cents over the past month. On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular in Burlington was $3.81, up signifcantly over a month ago, according to AAA. The national average for self serve unleaded of $3.73 and a year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $3.60. Will Higher Gas Prices Impact Your Labor Day Travel?

Gas prices have climbed 22 cents this month in the Boston area and 32 cents nationwide. How will this impact holiday travel?

As residents gear up for Labor Day weekened, local gas prices continue to creep up. According to AAA Southern New England, the average price of a gallon of gas in the Boston area of Massachusetts is currently $3.83, up 22 cents from this time last month. That is four cents, on average, less expensive than motorists pay in Rhode Island, and 28 cents less expensive than pumps in Connecticut. The local spike is not as bad as the national average, which has seen an increase of 32 cents per gallon this past month.  Prices are a bit better in Burlington. According to MapQuest the lower priced gas in town is $3.73 at the Hess station at 110 Cambridge St. to $3.77 at Burlington Citgo, 161 Bedford St.  According to AAA, gas prices should go down …

POLL: Gas Prices Increase by 3 Cents Across State

While riders on the MBTA are currently facing potential fare increase, drivers across the state are now dealing with even higher gas prices.  The price per gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline rose three cents during the past week, according to a Boston Herald report Monday.  It's the third week in a row drivers have had to pay more for gas. The average current price per gallon for unleaded is $3.79, a rise of six cents from last month. The average price this time last year was $3.56. The good news, however, is that the current price in Massachusetts is still 13 cents below the national average of $3.92, according to the Boston Herald. Gas Prices Could Reach $4 Per Gallon by Summer [POLL]

The current average of $3.49 per gallon marks a dramatic increase in prices over the last several weeks.

Residents across the Commonwealth may have noticed a steady hike in gas prices over the last several weeks.  In a report on Monday from AAA Southern New England, self-serve pumps are currently charging an average of $3.49 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, according to MyFoxBoston.com. The current average marks the seventh week in a row of continued increases.  What's more, that current average is $.38 more than it was the same time last year. And prices are expected to hover around $4 per gallon by the time summer hits.  This will undoubtedly affect residents who travel by car to commute to work daily.
