Patch Snap: Three Girls Charged With ... Having Fun

Patch Snap is an occasional post that features pictures from around Burlington or Burlington residents out and about.

Welcome to another edition of Patch Snap, where we highlight a picture or pictures of around Burlington or of Burlington residents out and about. Today's Patch Snap is from the Fox Hill Elementary School's PTO and features students getting a ride to school in the back of a police cruiser. Now these aren't Burlington newest and youngest criminals. The Fox Hill School students pictured above; Mackenzie Fine, Carson Reidy, and Rachel Schlansky enjoyed a ride to school in Officer Keith Shephard's DARE Police cruiser. The once-in-a-lifetime trip was donated by Officer Sheppard to Fox Hill's March auction that raised $14,000 for the school. Do you have a picture that would make a great Patch Snap? Email it with a brief description to Richard.…

Fox Hill Elementary Getting iPads

The Fox Hill School PTO will present 30 new Apple iPads for student education on Friday.

Fox Hill Elementary School students are about to get some technically enhanced education thanks to a fundraising effort by the school's PTO. On Friday, May 25, in a school assembly, the Fox Hill School PTO will present students, faculty and staff with 30 new Apple iPads for rotating use throughout the school. The presentation of this gift is due to the unprecedented success of the committee’s Technology in the Classroom auction and dinner fundraiser in March which raised $14,000 for the school. "That evening was so much fun and a huge success,” exclaimed Fox Hill School Principal Ellen Johnson.  “The success held a special meaning as I knew Fox Hill students would benefit in far-reaching ways as a result of the efforts and the …

Image Gallery: Fox Hill Teachers Dance Against Bullying

Fox Hill Elementary School students were surprised by a dance performance put on by teachers with a special message on Friday.

Fox Hill Elementary School students were treated to a fun surprise during an assembly in the school’s gymnasium. Following a short talk with Principal Ellen Johnson on the students’ favorite parts of school and what they’ve learned this year about treating each other with respect and understanding, music suddenly began playing and suddenly teachers merged on center stage and began a special dance. The kids were surprised but immediately began cheering as their teachers, each dressed in a "Be the One" T-shirt, started a well-coordinated high-energy dance to the Backstreet Boys' "Be the One."  The message behind the 'flash mob' dance and the "Be the One" shirts was well-known to the students. Principal Johnson explained to Patch that this …

Back to School at Fox Hill Elementary

416 students back in classrooms as new school year starts

This Wednesday 416 students and 64 staff returned to Fox Hill Elementary School in Burlington to kick-off the 2011-12 school year. Principal, Ellen Johnson, was on-hand to welcome students as well as new staff - a new librarian, music teacher, reading specialist and special education teacher.  A new position this year for the school is also a school psychologist. Over the summer bathrooms at Fox Hill were renovated, the playground resurfaced and new basketball equipment added. "Touch-it" boards have also been added to classrooms, tying in nicely with this year's school motto - "Engaging students in new ways using technology."
