Fireworks Still on Despite Ominous Weather

Celebrate Burlington continues!

As of 6:30 p.m. this evening the Recreation Department is not planning on making any changes to the end of Celebrate Burlington.  Though the clouds have rolled in and there were some rumbles of thunder, it appears the storm will move away from us. So as of now the concert featuring Beetlejuice will still be on at 7 p.m. and the fireworks are still on and set to begin at 9 p.m. Both can be viewed at the Town Commons and Simonds Park.  Burlington Patch is in contact with the Recreation Department so if anything changes we will let you know.  If the fireworks are cancelled we will also send out a 'breaking news' email to everyone who has signed up for our newsletter. The fun begins at 11 a.m. and end with a fireworks show starting at 9 p.m.

Formerly known as Burlington Pride Day, Celebrate Burlington 2012 will land on the Burlington Commons and Simonds Park on Saturday, August 4 at 11 a.m. with events running all day until 9 p.m. In the event of bad weather, the rain day is August 5. The Recreation Department said the event is open to residents of all-ages and all are invited to enjoy a fun-filled, action-packed day. "Everyone can enjoy games of chance, do some clowning around, or test their sports skills," the brochure states. The fun begins at 11 a.m. with a carnival on the commons and at Simonds Park. Activities will include There will also be lots of food and giveaways. A children's concert at Simonds Park kicks off at 6 p.m. followed by a concert for all ages from 7 to 9…

Hi Julia, Thanks for the comment. We did have Wilmington listed in an earlier version of this story (I took out previous days yesterday) but I think they had more than one show because we listed for earlier in the week. Children are at High Risk for Fireworks Eye Injuries

Tips on keeping everyone safe and having fun this Independence Day.

The following is an informational column by the American Academy of Ophthalmology: The Fourth of July is drawing near and barbeque preparations are underway. Fireworks are a traditional part of Independence Day celebrations, but they can also be dangerous. Sadly, children and teens are too often hurt by fireworks. So, before the celebration begins, get your EyeSmart fireworks safety tips from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Of the 9,000 fireworks-related injuries each year, 21 percent are eye injuries and more than half of the victims are young children or teenagers.
