A Belmont man is facing OUI and drug charges following his March 25 arrest in Lexington after he was spotted operating erratically in Burlington.
State Police arrested a Belmont man for operating under the influence of drugs last night following a short pursuit on Route 128 in Lexington. The incident began around 8:25 p.m. on Monday, March 25, when troopers assigned to the Concord Barracks received several reports of a red BMW operating erratically on Rte. 128/95 in Burlington, according to a Massachusetts State Police press release. Several troopers responded to the area to search for the vehicle, which was reportedly continuously striking the guardrail as it traveled northbound. Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley says low-level pushers don't stand to benefit most from the JP drug lab "disaster." He says that honor goes to hardened criminals moving lots of drugs or those with violent histories.
If you're accused of a drug crime, and the evidence against you was handled by the State Drug Lab in JP, it might not mean "get-out-of-jail free." But for defendants it sometimes means "get-out-of-jail for lower bail." On Thursday, a convicted rapist who faces new drug charges was due back in court. His bail had been lowered because chemist Annie Dookhan — accused of tainting evidence in thousands of cases — had tested evidence against him. The man, 52-year-old Marcus Pixley, skipped court and is on the lam, a fugitive from justice. Pixley, who was held on $5,000 bail in connection to a South End drug possession arrest, had his bail reduced to $1,000, which he posted. Burlington Drug & Alcohol Task Force and the Woburn Memorial High School’s LEARN groups are holding a series of seminars in March to help parents talk to their children about drug abuse.
Drug and Alcohol use among young people is an important issue and two local groups have teamed up to help provide guidance for parents on how to address it and help keep their children away from harmful substances. The Burlington Drug & Alcohol Task Force and the Woburn Memorial High School’s LEARN groups are co-sponsoring a parent workshop series set for March that aims at providing parents proactive prevention steps that will reduce substance abuse risks for their adolescents. The series is titled “APPLAUDD: A Prevention Program Learning About Underage Drinking & Drugs” and includes presentations designed to empower parents of students grades 5 through 12 with strategies meant to reduce the risk of underage drinking and drug abuse, …
