Zenkin and Gordon to Square Off for 21st Middlesex District State Rep Seat

Kenneth Gordon beat out David Fionda and Virginia Mooney in the contested Democratic primary.

The section of the ballot on the Nov. 6 general election for the 21st Middlsex District State Representative seat has been set. Vice Chair of the Bedford Zoning Board and attorney Ken Gordon, D-Bedford, will face Burlington Selectman Walter Zenkin, R-Burlington, for the seat being left vacant by retiring Rep. Charles Murphy.  The 21 Middlesex District includes the towns of Burlington, Bedford and Precinct 3 of Wilmington. Gordon beat out fellow Democrats David Fionda, of Burlington, and Virginia Mooney, also of Burlington, in the Massachusetts State Primary yesterday. Murphy Endorses Fionda for 21st Middlesex District Seat

Retiring State Representative Charles Murphy has endorsed David Fionda to fill his seat.

Democrat and Burlington resident David Fionda's campaign to fill the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat got a big shot of energy with the endorsement of the seat's outgoing member. Charles Murphy, who announced earlier this year that he would no seek re-election after 16 years of service, announced he was endorsing Fionda in a statement last week. Fionda is running a sticker campaign for the Sept. 6 primary against fellow Democrats Virginia Mooney and Ken Gordon to get on the ballot for the November election as the Democratic candidate. Former Burlington Selectman and Town Meeting member Virginia Mooney is looking to fill the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat.

The race to fill the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat is getting more competitive by the day. Former Burlington Selectman and current Town Meeting member Virginia Mooney has put her name up for consideration to replace outgoing representative Charles Murphy. Mooney will be running a sticker campaign for the Sept. 6 primary against fellow Democrats David Fionda and Ken Gordon (see his story also posted today). David Fionda, CPA and Entrepreneur, Throwing Hat in Ring for Outgoing Murphy's Seat

David Fionda is seeking the Democratic ticket for the 21st Middlesex District.

Burlington resident David Fionda announced this week that he will be seeking the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat being left vacant by outgoing State Rep. Charles Murphy. He will be running as a Democrat. The 21st District includes the towns of Burlington, Bedford and precinct 3, of the town of Wilmington. Murphy announced last week that he will not seek re-election and will instead take a position in the private sector. Fionda is a Woburn native and 24-year Burlington resident with history of community service. He is also an entrepreneur and a Certified Public Accountant. Charley Murphy, 21st Middlesex District: As you may have learned by now, I have decided to not seek reelection as state representative for the 21st Middlesex District. As such, I will resign my seat effective at the close of the current legislative session on July 31st. Burlington State Rep. Charles Murphy To Resign

State. Rep Charles Murphy of Burlington has served in the House since 1997.

State. Rep. Charles Murphy, of Burlington, plans to resign, Murphy told Burlington Patch by email.  Murphy, a Democrat, who has recently been embroiled in a dispute with House Speaker Robert DeLeo, has served in the House since 1997, according to Boston.com. Murphy plans to leave by the end of July, says Boston.com. Selectman Walter Zenkin to Seek State Representative Spot

Burlington Selectman Walter Zenkin informed Patch that he will be seeking a spot on the State Representative ballot this fall.

Walter Zenkin, who has been a member of the Burlington Board of Selectmen for six years, informed Burlington Patch this week he is currently collecting signatures to get on the Republican primary ballot for the 21st Middlesex District with a view to ousting current State Rep. Charles Murphy, D-Burlington, this fall. The Twenty-first Middlesex districts consists of the towns of Bedford and Burlington, and precinct 3 of the town of Wilmington. Zenkin said he is running to represent the "pulse of the local communities" in the State House.
