More than 1,000 residents and police officers from across the state packed Wilmington Town Common for a candlelight vigil in honor of slain MIT Police Officer Sean Collier.
On Saturday night, residents said goodbye to one of their own and police officers from across the state saluted the bravery of a member of the thin blue line who made the ultimate sacrifice. Slain Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Officer Sean Collier's body was brought down Church Street past thousands who lined the street surrounding Wilmington Town Common and waved American flags as a part of an emotional goodbye. Collier, a Wilmington native and Somerville resident, was honored during a candlelight vigil following the procession. More than 1,000 residents, friends and law enforcement personnel from throughout Eastern Massachusetts packed the Wilmington Town Common for a candlelight vigil Saturday night to bid farewell and say thank you to a hometown hero. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Officer Sean Collier, a 2004 graduate of Wilmington High School, was gunned down as he sat in his cruiser Thursday night on a Cambridge Street, allegedly by brothers Tamerlan and Dzokhar Tsarnaev, the same men investigators believe are responsible for the fatal bombing attack at Monday's Boston Marathon. Many members of the Burlington community came out to the Town Commons this evening to remember and honor the life of Kristen Pulisciano, support her family, and take a stand against domestic violence. Pulisciano was found stabbed to death in her Burlington home on May 3. Christopher Piantedosi, Pulisciano's long-term boyfriend, is currently in custody facing charges for her murder. The message of the vigil was to embrace life and love and eschew violence. Speakers talked about the need for the community to come together and resist domestic violence. Rev. Hundreds of friends, family members and loved ones gathered at St. Malachy’s Church this Thursday to mourn the passing of Kristen Pulisciano. Pulisciano was found stabbed to death in her Burlington home on May 3. Christopher Piantedosi, Pulisciano's long-term boyfriend, is currently in custody facing charges for her murder. Out of respect for the family, media stayed away from the service and burial proceedings. The funeral was conducted by Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home. Pulisciano was laid to rest in Pine Haven Cemetery in Burlington. Family members, friends and loved ones of the late Kristen Pulisciano are inviting the community to a candlelight vigil in honor of the mother who was killed in her Burlington home last week. Pulisciano was found stabbed to death in her home on May 3. Her long-time boyfriend Christopher Piantedosi was arraigned in court on Monday on charges of her murder. The vigil is also meant to raise awareness of domestic violence in honor of Pulisciano and her family. The vigil will take place on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the gazebo on the Burlington Town Commons across from Town Hall.
