Gusty northwest winds are expected Friday afternoon.
The National Weather Service is warning of elevated fire weather conditions developing Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday. Gusty northwest winds are expected Friday afternoon. The winds plus dry conditions will create a fire hazard, according to the NWS. Elevated fire conditions will continue through mid-day Saturday, but winds should diminish in the afternoon. There is a “low probability” that southwest winds on Sunday will cause a wind advisory. The elevate fire weather conditions stretch across most of Massachusetts.

Some forecasters are predicting up to eight inches will fall in areas west of Boston Monday night into Tuesday.
Spring begins Wednesday, but Old Man Winter wants to get in one more whack before winter goes away. Forecasters predict as much as 8 inches of snow could fall in the Burlington area tonight into Tuesday. Nevertheless, the rain/snow line falls just west of Boston, meaning Burlington could see a mix of rain and snow. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Burlington area beginning at 9 p.m. Monday and lasting through 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Look out for heavy snow and ice, and between 4 and 8 inches of snow, according the NWS warning. Snow will likely make Tuesday morning's commute a difficult one, the NWS warns. Weather forecasters are predicting at least six inches of snow with a foot of snow possible.
Will Burlington get pummeled this weekend with more than a foot of snow or will it be a half-foot with rain mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The NWS said 6 inches of snow or more is possible and warned of heavy wet snow that may fall at 1 to 2 inches per hour. Snow may mix with rain in the Burlington area. The NWS warned that the heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs and result in scattered power outages. Forecasters say we could get 8-12 inches of snow.
Once again, the snow is melting. But once again, don't put the shovels away: the weekend could bring more snow. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, forecasters say, and Burlington could see up to 12 inches of new snow before it's done. On his blog, WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard is calling for light rain along the coast Saturday with snow inland and snow across the region by Sunday morning. "Heavy snow through early morning Sunday. Roads will be tough to travel, and yes, your flight will most likely be delayed or cancelled. (Although I don't run an airline, so I'll let them have the final word.)," Bouchard writes. As of now, forecasts call for 8 to 12 inches of new snow in the towns around Rte. 128.

Now that the snow has fallen, and started to melt, it’s your time to rate how the town’s plows handled the more than 2 feet of snow that fell Friday and Saturday. We put the question to our Facebook followers last night and the town's clean-up effort got mixed reviews. Some of the people said their neighborhoods were well plowed and the roads were clear, but others were less impressed. 'I live on Cresthaven Drive, aweful. Upland and all those roads are awful too! The 2013 blizzard has arrived. What can we expect today?
After a day of snow in Burlington, the major snowstorm is forecasted to continue for much of the Saturday. According to WCVB-TV, by Friday Feb. 9, snowfall totals will likely total 18 -24 inches but 30 inches is possible in the region. The National Weather Service forecasted a high of 22 degrees with a wind chill factor of -3 degrees. Burlington could see gusts of up to 25 miles per hour. White out conditions are expected as the storm intensifies.
What began as a blizzard watch for the Burlington area has now been upgraded to a blizzard warning. The National Weather Service issued the warning for the majority of Eastern Massachusetts Thursday afternoon, as it anticipates about 2 feet of snow to descend upon the area Friday into Saturday. "White out conditions are anticipated as roads become snow-covered by the Friday evening commute," the warning states. "Strong north-northeast winds are anticipated with gusts up to around 60 miles per hour, resulting in blowing and drifting of snow. Damage to trees and structures along with scattered power outages are anticipated." Residents can expect the potential of snow falling at 3-to-4 inches per hour and wind gusts of more than 20 miles …

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.: The Massachusetts travel ban will end at 4 p.m. this afternoon. Updated Saturday at 12:40 p.m. The snow has fallen and crews are out in force to clear the roads. According to NSTAR's power outage map, there are no major power outages in town. The travel ban decreed yesterday by Gov. Deval Patrick is still in effect until "further notice." The rationale is that the ban will make it easier for plows to clear the roads. There is no mail delivery today. CDC offers tips on keeping extreme cold at bay.
The National Weather Service predicts Burlington will feel some of the coldest temperatures of the season during the next 72 hours. An arctic blast of frigid air will cause evening temperatures to drop into the single digits and daytime highs will struggle to get out of the teens. "This will definitely be the coldest weather so far this season, and perhaps even colder than anything observed last winter," according to the NWS. The U.S. Center’s for Disease Control & Prevention’s brochure, entitled “EXTREME COLD: A Prevention Guide to Promote Your Personal Health & Safety,” provides a number of tips people can use to help combat the cold and its effects on homes, cars and people this week.

If they don't push back the snowbanks at the beginning during a 12 inch storm, they'll never catch up! If they send the 'landscaper trucks' to do plowing let's hope we don't have HUGE storms because they just don't have the POWER. A few days later, the town heavy equipment needs to push back the corners. SIDEWALKS along Rt3A in the Town Center Overlay district and bus stops need special attention… more ›
