Welcome to another edition of Patch Snap, where we highlight a picture or pictures of around Burlington or of Burlington residents out and about. Today's Patch Snap features young Burlington residents Michael Damato, 8, and Jackie Damato, 10, casting a ballot in the Children Vote during last Saturday's town election. Pictured her Michael puts his ballot into the machine as Jackie looks on and helps. They are assisted by Beverlee Vidoli, who was volunteering at the polls. Selectman Michael Runyan also looks on. The results are in and Patch has the results of the competitive town-wide contests.
Christopher Hartling is Burlington's newest member of the Board of Selectmen. He and incumbent Robert Hogan took the vote during today's Burlington Town Election. A total of 1,893 residents voted. That is 12.09 percent of the 15,652 eligible voters. There were three contestants for two open seats on the Board of Selectmen. Hogan garnered 1,276 votes and Hartling received 1,234 votes. Virginia Mooney, the third candidate, received 574 votes. This was Hartling's first race for the board. "I'm humbled that so many people voted for me in my first run," Hartling told Burlington Patch after the results were read. "A lot of great people helped me and showed me the way. At 5 p.m. 1,584 voters had cast ballots for the 2013 Burlington Town Election.
Voter turnout in today's Burlington Town Election is somewhat low. As of 5 p.m. 1,584 voters, or 10.12 percent, of eligible voters had cast ballots for the Burlington Town Election. Burlington has 15,652 registered voters. People were still coming through at 6 p.m. when Patch editor Richard Hosford was at the polls. Residents have until 8 p.m. to cast their ballots. The polls are at the Burlington High School. We will post a story tonight with the results once they become available.
