Take a Stand Against Substance Abuse at D.A.R.E. Day Tomorrow

The 2012 D.A.R.E. Day is being held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Town Commons tomorrow.

The following is a release from the coordinators of Burlington D.A.R.E. Day: Take a stand against drug and alcohol abuse in a great community event tomorrow. On Saturday, June 9th, the Burlington Common will be the site of the 24th annual D.A.R.E. Day on the Town Common. We are inviting you to join us on D.A.R.E. Day! Bring your family and friends to the Burlington Common from 11am to 3pm. Enjoy raffles, prizes, games and rides and much, much, more! Reminder: Burlington to Honor Veterans With Service Tomorrow

Join members of the community for a Veterans Day ceremony at the Town Commons at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.

  The following is a release from Robert Hogan, Director of Burlington's Office of Veteran Affairs: The Burlington Office of Veterans Services is inviting everyone to join us as we remember the 70th Anniversary of the start of the United States involvement in World War 2. The ceremony will take place on Friday Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. on the Burlington Town Commons. If the weather is bad, the ceremony may be moved to the Human Resources Building at 61 Center Street. We are especially inviting veterans who served during the Second World War. They and their families are invited to be there with as we place a special wreath in honor of the sacrifices and success of those who served during that terrible time. The Burlington Town Commons and Simonds Park were hopping on Saturday, Aug. 6 as thousands came out to enjoy fun, games, entertainment and food during Celebrate Burlington Day 2011.  The day offered a wide variety of activities, including games, Moon Bounce inflatables, entertainment acts and musical concerts, laser tag and a lot more. Partipating groups included the Burlington Recreation Department, Burlington Rotary, The Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, The Francis Wyman Association, Friends of the Burlington Public Library, The Burlington Minutemen, The Burlington Players, Burlington's Real School of Music, several church groups and others, all who added to the fun and activities.  As the best of celebration often do, Celebrate …

MSMS Teen LIGHT Draws Crowd for Walkathon

Teen LIGHT (Leaders Inspired to Give Hope to Teens), a student-based group at Marshall Simonds Middle School, is a ground-breaking community service program that develops young leaders and encourages students to transform the lives of struggling teens.

Hundreds of eighth grade students at Marshall Simonds Middle School held their third annual 5K walk-a-thon on June 4. The walk began on the Burlington common and was followed with activities and performances by student groups.  Proceeds from this year's walk will be used to fund various educational events with the goal of ending bullying and promoting student connection, teamwork, and peer sensitivity.
