Selectmen Approve 5K Fundraiser Run for This Weekend

The Leprechaun 5K Shuffle and Fun Run will benefit the Nashoba Learning Group, a school for Autism.

The Burlington Board of Selectmen approved a 5K fundraising fun run for a local organization that serves people with autism. The board approved the Leprechaun 5K Shuffle and Fun Run to benefit the Nashoba Learning Group, a school for Autism in Bedford. Registration for the run begins at 8:30 a.m. at Burlington High School on Sunday, March 17. The run begins at 10 a.m. According to an event listing on Burlington Patch, the entry fee for the fundraising run is $20. There will also be a half-mile fun run at the school.  Click here for more information on the event. Burlington High to Present 'Hairspray, The Broadway Musical'

Burlington High School students will have presentations of the show on multiple dates in March. Opening night is Friday, March 15.

The talented drama club students at Burlington High School are set to entertain the community once again. According to a post on Burlingto Patch, Burlington High School is excited to announce that “you can’t stop the beat” when it presents its hilarious and uplifting production of "Hairspray, the Broadway Musical." Showtimes start at 7:30 p.m. on March 15, 16, 22, 23. There will also be an early performance starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. Performances of the Tony award-winning musical will take place in the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center of Burlington High School. UPDATED: Police: Major Power Lines Down in Front of High School

Burlington Police are reporting major power lines down in front of the high school and are asking people to seek alternate routes.

Update 3:10 p.m. Burlington Patch just checked out the scene. The traffic on Cambridge Street at Burlington High School is backed-up but is moving. The traffic coming from the Mall Road direction was more backed up than traffic coming from Central Street. Also, as of 2:30 p.m. the traffic lights at Bedford Street and Cambridge Street were off, causing traffic delays as motorists attempted to navigate the intersection. Update at 2:04 p.m. Police are reporting that NSTAR is on scene now to clear the downed lines. NSTAR is estimating 2 to 3 hours and have hired two detail officers, police stated. The Traffic Supervisor will be at the intersection to conduct traffic. The Police Department is also placing two additional officers to assist with …

BHS Girl's Hockey Beat Winchester in MIAA Tournament

The no. 21 ranked Winchester High School girls' hockey team lost to no. 12 Burlington 3-1 Monday night in the preliminary round of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament.

The no. 12 ranked Burlington High School girls hockey team beat out the no. 21 ranked Winchester team  3-1 Monday night at Burlington in the preliminary round of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament, according to the Boston Globe website. Burlington (12-7-1) advances to the second round of the North Division 2 tournament to take on no. 5 ranked Gardner (11-4-2). A time and location for the second-round game have yet to be determined. Winchester ended the season having lost four consecutive games, with their last non-loss being a 1-1 tie against Woburn at home Feb. 6. Winchester's last win was a 5-0 blanking of Belmont in Winchester Feb. 2.

Today's Patch Snap comes from April Healey and is on the Burlington High School's Students for Environmental Action (SEA) Club's electronic waste collection day on Jan. 5. Healey explained: The Burlington High School's Students for Environmental Action (SEA) Club recently held an Electronics Recycling Day at Burlington High, and it was a big success.  The students organized the event and collected enough old printers, cell phones, monitors, computers, stereos and game systems to fill a 12 foot truck!    The items will be recycled by Wilmington Computer Recycling of Wilmington, and will help to …

Bring your old electronics to Burlington High on Jan. 5 for safe and environmentally friendly disposal.

The following is a release from the Burlington Conservation Commission: The Students for Environmental Action (SEA) are poised and ready to accept your old, unwanted, and broken electronics. Please bring your computers/laptops, monitors, printers, typewriters, iPads, iPods, cell phones, or other electronics to Burlington High School between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on January 5. Burlington High School is located at 134 Cambridge Street, Burlington, MA. Please note that televisions will not be accepted at this event.
