Last Friday hundreds gathered on the Burlington Town Commons to honor our country's Veterans of the Armed Services and thank them for their service.
Burlington residents, town leaders, state representatives and veterans gathered on the Town Commons last Friday, Veterans Day, to pay tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. The program was put together by Burlington's Office of Veteran Affairs and featured a flag raising ceremony, variety of speakers, placements of wreaths on memorials to fallen soldiers and police and veteran color guards. The Burlington High School Marching Band provided stirring patriotic accompanyments and Joseph McGrath played movingly on the bag pipes. State Sen. Burlington's Veterans Day ceremony is expected be held on the Town Commons but will be moved to the Human Resources Building if the weather is bad.
The following is a letter from Burlington's Director of Veteran Affairs Robert Hogan: Just a reminder that we will be lining up at 9 a.m. on Friday morning on the Town Common for our Veterans Day Ceremony. There is rain in the forecast for Thursday and Thursday night. If there are any concerns about the ground being too wet or too soft and slippery for the ceremony we will move the program indoors at the senior center at 61 Center Street, Human Resources Building. Doug Gillingham, Director of Recreation Maintenance, feels the upper section of the common will be fine on Friday morning, as long as it stops raining when they say it will.
