American Eagle Outfitters to Drop 77kids

The company reported that in fiscal 2011, the brand generated an after-tax loss of approximately $24 million on sales of $40 million.

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. announced in a press release last Friday that the company plans to exit its children's business 77kids and the associated online business.  There are 22 77kids stores in the nation, including three in Massachusetts. The Commonwealth locations are in the Burlington Mall, the Natick Mall and the South Shore Plaza in Braintree. American Eagle said the company is currently exploring options for the 77kids stores, including a full or partial disposition of the assets to a third party. 77Kids Open at the Burlington Mall

77Kids, by American Eagle, announced three store openings today, including one in Burlington.

There is a new children's apparel store opening in town today.  77Kids by American Eagle has set up shop at the Burlington Mall.  "Following the success of the first nine brick-and-mortar store openings last year, the brand will broaden the reach of its thriving children’s clothing collections with thirteen additional store locations," a release from American Eagle states.  77Kids offeres a variety of clothing options for children, including jeans, shorts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, dresses and swimwear. "This spring, collections are 80’s inspired incorporating graphic black and white with neon color pops as well as skinny and destructed denim," the release states.  "For girls, dresses paired with accessories rule while the rad skater look …
