Aly Raisman Safe for Another Week on Dancing With the Stars

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas were declared safe, along with Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough, were declared safe first in the April 23 show.

It appears the judges and fans of ABC's Dancing with the Stars are still in love with local Aly Raisman. The Needham Olympian who trained in Burlington and her dancing partner Mark Ballas were among the first two to be declared "safe" during the April 23 results show. They were joined by Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough to be ensured another week of competition at the top of the show following a performance by musician Olly Murs.  On the April 22 show Raisman and Ballas danced a foxtrot to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" and the pair earned 27 out of 30 points from the judges. That score put them in third place among the eight dance teams. Pickler and Hough earned 29 points Monday night as did contestant Zendaya and her partner Val …

Will Aly Raisman Survive This Round of Dancing with the Stars?

We think so; she does a decent foxtrot to a Steve Wonder tune.

'Isn't She Lovely.' That's the classic Steve Wonder tune to which Needham native Aly Raisman and her dancing partner Mark Ballas brought their foxtrot on Dancing with the Stars Monday night. The gymnast and the dancing pro earned 27 points from the DWTS judges. On an all-Stevie Wonder night — with Wonder there in-person and singing live when the couples weren't competing — Raisman was also part of a team dance. Aly's 'Team Samba' cooked to Stevie Wonder's song, 'Superstition.' It was an all-Stevie Wonder evening, with Wonder singing when the competing couples were not dancing. The dancing pair who receives the lowest combined score of judges' points and viewers' votes will be eliminated on tonight's, Tuesday's, results show. The show will …

Aly Raisman to Dance to Stevie Wonder on Dancing With the Stars

Raisman will dance tonight in the sixth episode of this season's Dancing With the Stars.

Dancing With the Stars returns Monday night, a week after Needham resident and Olympian Aly Raisman dedicated her dance to the victims of the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings.  "I want to do this for Boston," Raisman said. Ultimately, Raisman and dance partner Mark Ballas survived another week on the show, while comedian D.L. Hughley was sent home. The previous week, Raisman and Ballas came in first in the standings, doing a contemporary dance. On tonight's show, the sixth episode of the season, the stars will dance to Stevie Wonder music. The remaining contestants include Raisman, Victor Ortiz, Andy Dick, Zendaya, Kellie Pickler, Jacoby Jones, Ingo Rademacher and Sean Lowe. The episode airs at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Dancing With the Stars Responds to Boston Marathon

While ABC was wall-to-wall coverage of the Copley Square explosion yesterday, the dancing contest continued--although the program did not ignore the incident.

Regular Dancing With the Stars viewers who tuned in last night, at least in the Boston area, were instead greeted with coverage of the Boston Marathon explosion from yesterday.  While ABC's dancing contest continued, the incident was not far from the minds of the cast and crew. According to a tweet from People Magazine: Tom Bergeron opened tonight's #DWTS show with these words: "Our thoughts are with everyone in Boston tonight. ... My heart is with you." Needham Olympian Aly Raisman dedicated her dance to the people in Boston, and Zendaya sent the city her 10-point scores from the judges (she had two of them and a 9).  She did well again this week, scoring 25 points in a double-samba with professional pair Tony Dovolani and Witney Carson…

Quite the Week for Aly Raisman

From a stunning DWTS dance to #NextAdele.

It was the powerful contemporary dance with dancing partner Mark Ballas that started the week for Needham native Aly Raisman. [See video of the dance and the Dancing with the Stars judges' responses at right.]  By mid-week, the Olympic gold-medaling gymnast told the Boston Herald she "was hurting this week." Raisman explained more in Parade magazine, where she just launched a blog: Mark and I had a good time, but we were both really sore because we worked so hard during practice. It was a lot of lifts, which is something I’ve never done before. Being a gymnast, I’m used to being out there on the floor by myself, so being lifted by another person definitely works different muscles than I’m used to. Not too surprising, when you see the …

Top Aly Raisman Performance Keeps Her Dancing With the Stars

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas were the first pair to be declared safe in the April 9 Dancing With the Stars results show.

Aly Raisman must be getting pretty used to topping the podium.  In Monday night's Dancing With the Stars episode, the Needham Olympic medalist and partner Mark Ballas received nine out of 10 from all three judges, for 27 out of 30 possible points. The pair's performance of a contemporary dance to "Titanium" was strong enough to take the lead over challengers Kellie (Pickler) and Derek, and Zendaya and Val, who both scored 26 points.  It was the first time Raisman and Ballas finished in first place on the show. However, winning isn't new to Raisman, who earned gold and bronze medals at the summer 2012 Olympic Games in London. Raisman trains at Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club in Burlington. As the top finisher, Raisman was not in …

Aly Raisman Takes the Lead on Dancing With the Stars

Top scores from the judges put Aly Raisman and partner Mark Ballas at the top of the leader board in last night's episode.

Last night's Dancing With the Stars performance by Needham's Aly Raisman and partner Mark Ballas was the pair's best yet, as they vaulted to the top of the leader board. Raisman and Ballas scored nine out of 10 from all three judges in the fourth week of the show, for 27 out of 30 possible points.  This week's theme was "the best year of your life."  Dancing a contemporary routine to "Titanium," Raisman said she was inspired by summer 2012, when she competed in the London Olympics, winning bronze and gold medals. "Summer 2012 was the best year of my life beacuse I got to represent the U.S. at the Olympic games," Raisman said. "This contemporary dance is definitely a challenge, but I want to nail it, hopefully, so I can be part of the next …

Dancing with Aly Raisman, Again, Tonight

Needham's hometown hero, Aly Raisman, continues on ABC's dancing contest tonight.

Hey, did Aly Raisman make it to the next stage of Dancing with the Stars? Yep, she survived the round, and is back tonight. Even despite an April Fool's moment with one of the judges, during the post-dance critique. "Up until tonight I've been impressed with your dancing," said judge Len Goodman. "Not tonight." But then: "April Fool's!" The Raisman-Ballas duo scored of 23 out of a possible 30,  which keeps them near the front of the dancing pack. With her score from the two previous weeks, she has a total of 68 points.  Raisman trained for the Olympics Gymnastics Team at the Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club in Burlington. She won two gold medals and a bronze medal for the U.S. Women’s Olympics at the 2012 London Games. As one couple …
