The State Primary is not a big draw for Burlington voters.
Voter turnout in today's primary election is relatively low in Burlington. According to the numbers posted by Town Clerk Amy Warfield, as of 6 p.m. 1,539 votes had been cast at the polls. That is 10.1 percent of the 14,326 registered voters in Burlington. The polls are open until 8 p.m. this evening at Burlington High School. The most significant contested race in this area is among the Democratic candidates who are running to be on the ballot for the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat being left vacant by outgoing Rep. What is unique about this primary ballot is that Murphy, even though he is not running for re-…

I'm Ken Gordon. I'm asking you to vote for me, please, this Thursday, in the Democratic primary, to be your State Representative in the 21st Middlesex District. I will stand up for the rights of the middle class, as I do at work, as I have as a community volunteer. My job is to protect [support] the rights of workers who have been victimized in the work place for a variety of reasons, such as discrimination and harassment. I understand the value of small and large business to our community. Entrepreneurs must be given an incentive to invest in our community, or they will take their jobs elsewhere. We do that by investing in the infrastructure of the community, because relying on tax savings alone leaves us vulnerable to being outbid by…

Charles Murphy. The 21 Middlesex District includes the towns of Burlington, Bedford and Precinct 3 of Wilmington. What is unique about this primary ballot is that Murphy, even though he is not running for re-election, will be the only name on the Democratic ballot. The following is a letter from Burlington selectman and 21st Middlesex District House Seat candidate Walter Zenkin: I am running for state rep to bring integrity and common sense to Beacon Hill. For too long the needs of hardworking people in Burlington, Bedford and Wilmington have been ignored. We must firmly reject the culture of corruption that exists on Beacon Hill and repudiate practices that favor the politically-connected few. As a two-term selectman in Burlington, I’ve demonstrated a commonsense approach that I plan to bring to the state house. I understand the delicate balance of financing public services without punishing the taxpayer or stifling the local businesses providing our residents with jobs. It can be a tightrope act …

The Burlington Council on Aging held a candidate forum this week.
The three Democrats looking to be on the November ballot for the open 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat participated in a candidate forum at the Burlington Council on Aging last week. The 21 Middlesex District includes the towns of Burlington, Bedford and Precinct 3 of Wilmington. Incumbent Charles Murphy announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election. However, due to the timing of the election, his is the only name that will appear on the Sept. 6 primary ballot. The three candidates are also running write-in campaigns. The three candidates are CPA and business owner David Fionda, Vice Chair of the Bedford Zoning Board and attorney Ken Gordon and former Burlington Selectman and current Town Meeting member …

Retiring State Representative Charles Murphy has endorsed David Fionda to fill his seat.
Democrat and Burlington resident David Fionda's campaign to fill the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat got a big shot of energy with the endorsement of the seat's outgoing member. Charles Murphy, who announced earlier this year that he would no seek re-election after 16 years of service, announced he was endorsing Fionda in a statement last week. Fionda is running a sticker campaign for the Sept. 6 primary against fellow Democrats Virginia Mooney and Ken Gordon to get on the ballot for the November election as the Democratic candidate. The ballot will only show Murphy's name, but he is not running, so voters must write-in their choice. The 21 Middlesex District includes the towns of Burlington, Bedford and Precinct 3 of …
Former Burlington Selectman and Town Meeting member Virginia Mooney is looking to fill the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat.
The race to fill the 21st Middlesex District State Representative seat is getting more competitive by the day. Former Burlington Selectman and current Town Meeting member Virginia Mooney has put her name up for consideration to replace outgoing representative Charles Murphy. Mooney will be running a sticker campaign for the Sept. 6 primary against fellow Democrats David Fionda and Ken Gordon (see his story also posted today). The ballot will only show Murphy's name, but he is not running, so voters must write-in their choice. The 21 Middlesex District includes the towns of Burlington, Bedford and Precinct 3 of Wilmington. Mooney has been a Town Meeting member for 36 years and was a member of the Board of Selectmen from 1988 to 1991. She …
Gordon, of Bedford, is the vice-chair of the Bedford Zoning Board and an attorney specializing in workplace discrimination.
Another Democrat has thrown his hat into the ring for the write-in campaign to get on the November ballot for the 21st Middlesex District State Representative Seat being left vacant by Rep. Charles Murphy. Ken Gordon, 52, of Bedford, announced his write-in candidacy for the vacant seat in a release yesterday. He will face fellow Democrats David Fionda and Virginia Mooney (see story also posted today) in the Sept. 6 primary. The ballot will only show Murphy's name, but he is not running, so voters must write-in their choice. The 21 Middlesex District includes the towns of Burlington, Bedford and Precinct 3 of Wilmington. “I am getting in this race to give the voters of Burlington, Bedford and Wilmington a competent Democratic candidate with…
