Two weeks left of Aly & Mark and four other celebrity-professional dancing couples vying to win the DWTS prize.
Dancing pairs have gotten picked off — by Dancing with the Stars judges and by viewership votes — for eight weeks. Now, let the semifinals begin! When last we saw Needham-based Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman and her dancing partner, Mark Ballas, on last Tuesday's Results Show, they were one of five pairs who survived until Monday night's semifinals. The full list: DWTS viewers voted Afro Jazz as the dance Aly & Mark will tackle tonight for the semifinals. One more couple gets cut by the end of the results show Tuesday night. Dancing with the Stars airs tonight at 8 p.m., with the Results how Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Massachusetts also largely supports Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in 2016.
Bay Staters like Hillary Clinton and support same-sex marriage, but nothing compares to their love of Red Sox Manager John Farrell. The Sox manager received the lowest disapproval percentage in Public Policy Polling history – even better than Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa and Santa Claus. What a difference a year makes for the Sox. The team’s hot start has 27 percent of those who took the survey predicting a World Series. Only 3 percent said the Sox will not make the playoffs. Sixty-four percent of those surveyed said Farrell is doing a good job. Only 1 percent disapproved of Farrell’s work this year. This is the lowest disapproval rating Public Policy Polling has ever seen. In comparison, in a national poll in November, Lincoln was …

Viewers vote for the dance she and her dance partner will do next week.
Aly Raisman has survived an eighth week on Dancing with the Stars, proving she may turn out to be as much of a champ on the dance floor as on the gym floor. Raisman and her dance partner Mark Ballas found out Tuesday night that they've made it to next week's Dancing with the Stars semifinals. DWTS viewers voted Afro Jazz as the dance Aly & Mark will undertake next week for the semifinals. Who did not make it to the semifinals: Sean & Peta (The Bachelor reality show star Sean Lowe and professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd). At the end of Week 8, Aly & Mark are in second place with a judges' score of 56 out of 60. The Needham gymnast, who trained in Burlington, and her partner did well in in Monday night's show, nailing a 29 out of 30 score …

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association voted in January to drop boys' gymnastics from its roster for sponsored sports.
The Burlington High School boys' gymnastics teams may have a chance at another official season. The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) recently voted 7-2 to reconsider its decision to drop boys' gymnastics as an official high school sport, according to a report in the Boston.com High School Sports Blog. Citing low participation numbers, the MIAA voted on January 16 to end sanctioned competition for the seven boys' gymnastics teams in the state. The seven schools with boys' gymnastics teams include: Newton North, Newton South, Braintree, Burlington, Lowell, Attleboro and Andover. Richard Ellis, coach of the Braintree High School boys gymnastics team, and Braintree Athletic Director Michael Denise, presented …

But they did not win immunity from being eliminated this week.
Going into Monday night's live Dancing with the Stars performance, Needham native Aly Raisman wasn't even sure who her partner would be, after Mark Ballas this week hurt his back doing a lift of Aly. The Olympic gold-medaling gymnast trained much of the week with someone else. But Ballas was back Monday night, and Aly & Mark were in fine form, dancing a hot salsa for a score of 29 out of 30 in week 7 of the season. Then, DWTS threw in a fresh competitive twist: a dance-off among six of the seven competing couples. Aly & Mark won a cha-cha dance-off against another couple, which scored the gold-medaling Olympic gymnast and her professional dancing partner some extra points from the panel of judges. That means they ended Monday night at …

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas were declared safe, along with Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough, were declared safe first in the April 23 show.
It appears the judges and fans of ABC's Dancing with the Stars are still in love with local Aly Raisman. The Needham Olympian who trained in Burlington and her dancing partner Mark Ballas were among the first two to be declared "safe" during the April 23 results show. They were joined by Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough to be ensured another week of competition at the top of the show following a performance by musician Olly Murs. On the April 22 show Raisman and Ballas danced a foxtrot to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" and the pair earned 27 out of 30 points from the judges. That score put them in third place among the eight dance teams. Pickler and Hough earned 29 points Monday night as did contestant Zendaya and her partner Val …

We think so; she does a decent foxtrot to a Steve Wonder tune.
'Isn't She Lovely.' That's the classic Steve Wonder tune to which Needham native Aly Raisman and her dancing partner Mark Ballas brought their foxtrot on Dancing with the Stars Monday night. The gymnast and the dancing pro earned 27 points from the DWTS judges. On an all-Stevie Wonder night — with Wonder there in-person and singing live when the couples weren't competing — Raisman was also part of a team dance. Aly's 'Team Samba' cooked to Stevie Wonder's song, 'Superstition.' It was an all-Stevie Wonder evening, with Wonder singing when the competing couples were not dancing. The dancing pair who receives the lowest combined score of judges' points and viewers' votes will be eliminated on tonight's, Tuesday's, results show. The show will …

The Fierce Five induction will take place in August.
Aly Raisman and her 'Fierce Five' teammates — McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross, Gabby Douglas and Jordyn Wieber — this summer will get ushered into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame. The Needham native, who trained at Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club in Burlington, was captain of the gold medal-winning US Women's Gymnastics team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, along with individually winning a gold medal on the floor and bronze medal on the balance beam. The Fierce Five will be inducted in August during the 2013 U.S. Championships and USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show which will take place in Hartford, Connecticut. The Fierce Five 2012 Olympics team will be inducted along with two other gold-medaling teams: the 2007 Women’s …
