Monday Essentials: Benefit for Fire Victims, Midnight Launch of Xbox 1

Five things to know about the week ahead.

Welcome to Monday Essentials, our weekly column taking a look at the week ahead. Here are five things to know about this week:

1) Cool days and cold nights 

Looks like a mixed-bag of weather this week. According to theNational Weather Service we can expect rain Monday morning followed by sunny skies. It will be a mix of sun and clouds through the week with temperatures starting in the low 40s on Tuesday and rising to high 40s by Friday. Monday will be warmer with temperatures in the 60s. Overnight temperatures this week will mostly be in the high 20s. 

2) Public meetings 

The Board of Selectmen is meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday in the main hearing room at Town Hall. The School Committee is meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the meeting room at Burlington High School. The Planning Board is meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the main hearing room at Town Hall. Click here for a full list of public meetings this week.

3) Xbox 1 Midnight Launch

The new Microsoft Store in the Burlington Mall is holding a celebration of the new Xbox 1 with a Killer Instinct Ultra Fighter Gaming Tournament. Registration for the tournament begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday and is open to the first 256 people (18 years or older). The winner and a guest will be flown to Jacksonville, Fla. the next day to participate in the final showdown. 

At midnight the store start selling the new console. 

4) Benefit for Lord Baron Apartment fire victims 

The Revive Community Church, 111 Terrace Hall Avenue, is holding a benefit event for those displaced in the recent fire at Lord Baron Apartments on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and all financial donations will go to the 'Fire Fund' set up by People Helping People.

5) Book talk 

The Burlington Public Library is holding a session of The Last Wednesday Book Group at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The group will be discussing Mitch Albom's thought-provoking novel 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven,' described by critics as 'a small, pure and simple book that will find good company on a shelf next to 'It's a Wonderful Life.'' The event is free and open to all.
