Playoff Brackets Unveiled for Red Devil Teams

The MIAA released its postseason brackets over the weekend, including appearances by four Burlington High School teams.

Burlington, led by captain Sara Walsh and others, has had plenty of hockey success, but this is the first year the Lady Red Devils have been a part of it.

The team is postseason bound for the first time in school history, opening its playoff run at home on Monday at 8:10 p.m. as the No. 12 seed against No. 21 Burlington.

If Burlington wins its Division 2 tilt, the locals will face off against No. 5 Gardner in the first round.

Boys Hockey Awaits Playoff Assignment

Defending champion Burlington is playoff bound, but the team's assignment isn't yet known. The MIAA has not yet released the Division 1 bracket, likely waiting until after Monday night's Super 8 play-in games as the losers of those games fall into the Division 1 tournament.

Burlington went 9-5-5 overall this regular season after a slow start. The Red Devils were 7-5-5 in league play, second to only defending Division 2 state champion Wilmington.

Girls Basketball Playing for a Shot at the Best

On the hardwood, the Lady Red Devils open on Thursday at 7 p.m. at home against Lynn Classical. The winner of that game moves on to the quarterfinal round to face off with unbeaten defending state champion Reading on Sunday.

Burlington earned the No. 8 seed in the tournament with an 11-9 record while 12-10 Lynn Classical is the brackets No. 9 ranked team.

Boys Basketball Hopes to Put Brighton on Upset Alert

The Red Devils are the No. 12 seed in the North Division 2 boys basketball tournament, earning an opening round tilt against No. 5 Brighton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game is set to take place at Latin Academy.

Burlington is led by junior Shane Farley, who recently scored 50 points in an overtime victory versus Wilmington.
