Cheryl Shafman of Burlington named an Unsung Heroine of 2013

Cheryl Shafman of Burlington has been named one of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW)'s Unsung Heroines of 2013.

In recognition of her outstanding achievements as Chair of the
Burlington Relay for Life, Cheryl Shafman of Burlington has been named one of
the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW)’s Unsung Heroines of 2013. In the search for the Unsung Heroine in the 4th Middlesex
District, Senator Ken Donnelly (D-Arlington) nominated Cheryl for her
unwavering dedication to serve others.

After losing her mother to cancer, Cheryl dedicated herself to
finding a cure by volunteering for the Burlington Relay for Life. As Chair,
Cheryl turned average turnout into an enormously successful event with over
$143,000 in donations this past year.

“As a participant in the Burlington Relay for Life, I have
seen firsthand how Cheryl’s impressive organizational and fundraising skills
has created an exceptional event,” said Senator Donnelly. “Raising over
$100,000 is a remarkable feat and it could not have been done without Cheryl.”

The MCSW Unsung Heroines are women who don’t always make the
news, but truly make the difference. They are the women who use their time,
talent and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in
their neighborhoods, cities and towns.

“Cheryl is committed to making Burlington a better place and
she does so without desiring praise or recognition,” added Senator Donnelly.
“I’m thrilled she is receiving the credit she deserves.”
