Teen LIGHT and Flatbread Unite to Help Teens

Pizza Party at Flatbread from 5:30 to 9 p.m. tomorrow night.

The following is a release from MSMS's student group Teen LIGHT:

Hundreds of 8th graders from the have made it their mission to help teens with serious illnesses such as cancer.  The students of Teen LIGHT will host a charity night at Flatbread restaurant on Tuesday, May 15.  Proceeds will benefit Camp Sunshine, Christopher’s Haven, and Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund.

The “pizza party” will be from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Flatbread restaurant.  The restaurant is on 213 Burlington Road in Bedford across from Mitre field.  Flatbread will donate $1.75 for each small pizza sold and $3.50 for each large pizza.  Pizza sales include dine-in, take-out, and a new drive-up option.  The evening will include a 50 – 50 raffle, T-shirt sales, student raps, and, of course, plenty of pizza.  There will also be a unique opportunity for guests to sign get-well cards for seriously ill teens.  MSMS students created hundreds of hand-made cards under the direction of MSMS teachers Miss Murray and Mrs. Miksenas.  Teen LIGHT will forward the cards to Dana Farber.

This is Teen LIGHT’s fourth year in Burlington.  Teen LIGHT is a ground-breaking community service program that develops young leaders and encourages students to transform the lives of struggling teens.  In its first three years in Burlington, Teen LIGHT raised approximately $40,000 to benefit teens struggling with depression, addiction, abuse, and bullying.

In response to the question, “What would you do to change the world?” this year’s Teen LIGHT group in Burlington is raising awareness and money to support teens will serious illnesses such as cancer.  Throughout the year, students collaborate as a team through a series of events and activities designed to educate and support teens while providing hope and optimism.  In the words of former Teen LIGHT leader Michaela Mazure: “An idea that begins as a question can turn into a project that can change the world.”
