Middle School Teen LIGHT Students Holding 5K for Good Cause

The MSMS group Teen LIGHT is holding a charity 5K run for Camp Sunshine, Christopher's Haven and the Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund at the town commons on June 2.

The following is a release from MSMS's group Teen LIGHT:

Hundreds of 8th graders from the have made it their mission to help teens with serious illnesses such as cancer.  They will hold their fourth annual Teen LIGHT walk-a-thon on June 2.  The 5k run/walk will begin on the Burlington town common and include activities following the 5K.  The teens added the option to run the 5K this year to attract runners to the event.  Proceeds will benefit Camp Sunshine, Christopher’s Haven, and Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund.

On-site registration will take place at 9:00 a.m. on the common.  The 5K will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with activities on the common until 1:00 p.m.  The event will include entertainment, raffles, snacks, and activities.  BHS student Andy Abou-Rjaily will DJ. 

Scheduled performances include girls’ hip hop, the popular Evolution boys’ group and Teen Phunk of the nationally renowned Phunk Phenomenon. Scheduled guest speakers include Christopher’s Haven families who will benefit directly from funds raised.  The walk fee is $10 for children and teens, $20 for adults, and $30 for families. 

This is Teen LIGHT’s fourth year in Burlington.  Teen LIGHT is a ground-breaking community service program that develops young leaders and encourages students to transform the lives of struggling teens.  In its first three years in Burlington, Teen LIGHT raised approximately $40,000 to benefit teens struggling with depression, addiction, abuse, and bullying.  In response to the question, “What would you do to change the world?” this year’s Teen LIGHT group in Burlington is raising awareness and money to support teens will serious illnesses such as cancer.  In the words of former Teen LIGHT leader Michaela Mazure: “An idea that begins as a question can turn into a project that can change the world.”
