Retiring DPW Worker Honored, New Hire Welcomed (Images)

Superintendent of Public Works John Sanchez and the Board of Selectmen gave certificates of appreciation to DPW member Rick Haynes.

The Burlington Board of Selectmen spent some time during the meeting last night to approve a new member of the Department of Public Works and to honor a retiring member.

At the recommendation of Superintendent of Public Works John Sanchez the board appointed Patrick Duran to a full-time position in the Highway Division.

"Pat has shown experience in areas we need it the most," Sanchez told the board. "He has a background in paving and equipment use. I'm looking forward to seeing his experience put to work in the department."

The board approved the appointment unanimously and agreed to waive the normal 15-day waiting period for new employees.

Sanchez and the board also recognized retiring DPW member Rick Haynes. Sanchez explained that Haynes has been working for the town for over 30 years and his vast knowledge and experience will be missed.

For the last 30 plus years Rick has been working with us, reading meters, fixing water mains and handling the equipment," he said. "He's been with us for a long time making sure we have water year round. It's been a pleasure to getting to know him and glad he’s retiring so he can enjoy himself."

Haynes was honored with two separate certificates of recognition, one presented by Sanchez and another by the Board of Selectmen.
