Middlesex Turnpike Road Work Set to End this Fall

Road work on Middlesex Turnpike, South Avenue and Second Avenue will soon be complete.

The road work currently underway on Middlesex Turnpike, South Avenue and Second Avenue is set to end shortly. 

According to a notice on the Town of Burlington's web site, the work should be completed in October of this year. 

The projects are spearheaded by the Gutierrez Company and funded through a Mass works Infrastructure Program the following Transportation Improvement. 

The projects undertaken for improvements: 

  • Middlesex Turnpike 

The improvements along the Middlesex Turnpike consist of widening Middlesex Turnpike at the Route 128 Northbound Off-ramps to provide a new third northbound through lane and a new exclusive left turn lane.  

The northbound Route 128 off-ramps will be reconstructed to improve the alignment and travel to and from Wheeler Road (West) and the southbound left turn lane on Middlesex Turnpike will be extended increasing storage capacity.

The traffic signal at this location will be adjusted to take advantage of the additional capacity and to improve safety. 

  • South Avenue & Second Avenue

The improvements along South Avenue & Second Avenue consist of widening South Avenue and removing the one-way traffic restriction to improve traffic flow.

A multi-use path will be provided along the westerly side of South Avenue and will connect to the Northwest Park development project.  Second Avenue will be widened to accommodate additional turn lanes at its intersection with Middlesex Turnpike and Burlington Mall Road.  T

he Second Avenue approach to the Middlesex Turnpike will also be modified to better align the eastbound through movement.  The Second Avenue right-turn movement will be designed to provide a protected, canalized approach to the Middlesex Turnpike.
