Letter to the Editor: Why I'm Running for Re-Election to Recreation Commission

A letter to the editor from Burlington Recreation Commission member Kristine Brown.

Letter to the Editor

Over the past nine years, I have had the privilege of serving as one of Burlington’s Recreation Commissioners. In that time, I have been an active participant on the board and different sub-committees, including SAFE Parks and Burlington Bike Path Committee. I also volunteer for Burlington Baseball and Softball Association, and Francis Wyman School PTO.

When the School Department turned the Wildwood property back to the town, I helped to lead the charge for the Recreation Department to obtain “ownership” of the space for recreational use. During this process, I had the good fortune to meet a resident named Ernie Zabolotny. With his careful guidance and assistance, we began the PARC Grant process, and submitted a successful application to the state. This helped Burlington recover almost half the cost of construction for the new Wildwood Park.

As a resident and mother to three children, the Recreation Department always offers my family quality programs and clean safe facilities to enjoy. As a Commissioner, I have learned a great deal about how the department works, and what it takes to operate in a safe effective manner. Please support me in my campaign for re-election. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
