Letter to the Editor: Appreciation for a Successful Election

A letter from Town Clerk Amy Warfield.

The following is a letter to the editor from Burlington :

Having successfully completed another election I want to take a moment to thank all of those who help to make it that way.  I’d like to especially thank the Burlington Police Department, DPW Highway Department, Recreation Maintenance, School Department and BHS custodians for their assistance in preparing the polls, grounds, and traffic control.   Our Post Office was also a great help in assuring absentee ballots were efficiently delivered.

I’d also like to thank the dedicated, enthusiastic, and competent poll workers for assisting voters through the process.  With the retirement of our long term Representative Charles Murphy, it helped to make this election usual and an interesting one.  Our poll workers handled the questions and situation very professionally. I’m especially proud that there are people in Burlington who are willing to get out there and run for office.  We again had the privilege of working with a fine group of BHS students who answered the call for assistance with the end of night process.  It was a great help and we look forward to having them at the Presidential Election.

Elections are more than a one day activity, the Town Clerk’s office works for weeks in anticipation of an election.  They are registering voters, assisting voters in the office who cast absentee ballots, mailing ballots to voters up to the day before the election, organizing the poll workers, tracking all voters and ballots and investigating and resolving issues that arise during the election.  The work the office does is the foundation of a successful election and I thank Linda, Janice and Lisa for assisting in laying a great foundation.

Our appreciation goes out to Dunkin Donuts (Cambridge St) for their donation of coffee and donuts, Servizio, Pizza Days and Pizza Works for their donations of pizza and sandwiches.  It kept everyone’s energy level up during the long day!

Lastly, thank you to the voters of Burlington who come out and exercise their right to vote.  We look forward to seeing you again in November for the Presidential Election.

Regards,

Amy Warfield

Town Clerk
