  • Square dancing: St. Malachy Church is hosting Single Squares beginner classes for those interested in square dancing. No need for a partner, just show up and meet new people and have fun. Cost is $7. Click here for more information.
  • Facebook showdown: Burlington Patch is taking on Lexington Patch in a Facebook "like" showdown. We are looking to see who can get more likes between now and Nov. 21 (day before the Burlington/Lexington Thanksgiving Day game). Help us beat Lexington by liking our Facebook page today.
  • Taking the plunge: On this day in 1901, the first barrel ride down Niagara Falls occurred. A 63-year-old schoolteacher named Annie Edson Taylor took the plunge in wooden pickle barrel. She survived the trip, although she was a bit battered, and landed ashore after a 20-minute ride. Going over the Falls in any way, shape or form, is illegal. But that hasn’t stopped many a cartoon character from following Taylor’s lead.
