The woman believed to have stolen more than $100,000 worth of merchandise from Victoria's Secret and Sephora stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail at her arraignment on Tuesday.
Police said previously that they believed the Northshore Mall thefts were linked to similar thefts at the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem. Salem Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten said Monday that Salem Police do not have any charges as of yet, but detectives are working on putting a case together.
The Salem News in Salem, MA is reporting that in addition to the Mall at Rockingham Park and the Northshore Mall, Santos is suspected of shoplifting from the Fox Run Mall in Newington, the Steeplegate Mall in Concord, the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua and the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester. In Massachusetts, she is suspected of stealing from the Burlington Mall, the Chestnut Hill Mall, the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough, the Holyoke Mall and Legacy Place in Foxborough. Police believe Santos is part of an organized shoplifting ring.
She is charged with nine counts of larceny over $250 and three counts of trespassing for allegedly stealing merchandise from Victoria's Secret and the Sephora stores at the Northshore Mall.
The Essex County (MA) District Attorney's office said Judge Sabita Singh ordered the high bail. Should Santos post bail, she will be confined to her home with a GPS bracelet and must stay away from all shopping malls. She is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 15 for a pre-trial hearing.
