Red Cross Shelter to Remain Open Through the Weekend, Accepting Clothes Donations

The Red Cross is providing aid to those displaced in Wednesday night's apartment fire.

American Red Cross Communications Director Kat Powers said in a release that the shelter set up for those displaced in Wednesday night's apartment fire at 8 Baron Park Lane will remain open for the weekend.

The American Red Cross is opened a shelter at 61 Center Street at the Burlington Council on Aging.

"This shelter is for residents displaced by the massive fire at Baron Park Lane late Wednesday," Powers said. "Residents will find Red Cross volunteers able to offer food, emergency funds as needed, and what we call “casework support” where those burned out by the fire can take next steps in their recovery."

So far Red Cross services have been provided to 35 adults and 17 children who are residents of the Barron Park Lane building.

There are still families who have not sought assistance from the American Red Cross. Please share the information about the shelter and the 24-hour line, 800-564-1234, for those still needing aid.
