Plane Crash Near Middlesex Turnpike in Burlington

A small plane has crashed in the woods near the Middlesex Turnpike and Fourth Avenue with two passengers on board.

Just before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, a small, single-engine plane with two on board crashed in the woods near the Middlesex Turnpike and Fourth Avenue in Burlington, about a half mile from the Burlington Mall.

According to a preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police, there were no injuries as a result of the crash. The plane had a parachute, which the pilot deployed successfully.

WCVB is reporting the plane was bound for Hanscom Field in Bedford where on May 31 seven passengers died when a plane crashed on takeoff. According to WCVB, the pilot reported engine failure. 

    The female pilot and passenger of Wednesday's crash are said to have walked away from the wreck.

    Several media outlets are reporting witnesses ran into the woods following the crash. WHDH, 7-News is reporting one of the witnesses said the pilot was unhurt, but upset and shaken. 

    Just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Burlington Police said all roads are open in town and the crash has no impact on traffic. 

    Burlington Police Chief Michael Kent addressed the media this afternoon. He said the plane crashed in a wooded swamp area and it was challenging. He also said the town's water supply has not been affected by the crash. 

    He also said the pilot and passenger were not hurt but taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington out of precaution.

    Massachusetts State Police say the plane crash is being investigated by the federal state and local agencies, the FAA and Mass Aeronautical.

    2:40 p.m. - WCVB is reporting the plane was bound for Hanscom Field 

    2:20 p.m. - The entire plane appears to have had a parachute, according to photos from the scene.

    2:07 p.m. - After a preliminary investigation, Massachusetts State Police believe that there have been no injuries as a result of the crash.

    2:03 p.m.Burlington Police confirm two people were on board and that the FAA has been notified.

    2 p.m. - A parachute has been reportedly located on Fourth Avenue in Burlington. Firefighters have responded to the scene, and there are two victims with unknown injuries.
