State Police apprehended a carjacking suspect who rammed two separate cars against multiple vehicles on Route 128 between Peabody and Burlington on Friday afternoon.

State Police responded to the hit and run crash followed by multiple crashes along Route 128 Southbound at 3:15 p.m. Friday.

State Police said Arthur B. Choate, 23, of Gloucester, crashed his Chrysler Sebring in Peabody, carjacked a black Honda CRV and then rolled over that vehicle in Burlington. He tried to flee the scene, but police arrested him near the Burlington Mall.

Route 128 South was closed for about an hour near the Burlington Mall as State Police investigated. Burlington Police and Fire assisted on the scene.

There were no injuries involved in the crashes. Seven vehicles were damaged.

Choate was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Police plan to charge him on multiple other motor vehicle violations.

Police said there was no police pursuit before the crash.

Harsh and very un-PC, Steve. I think you meant to say an undocumented Democratic voter. :-)

Men with umbrellas that look like assault weapons, mammoth sink holes that swallow cars, and now deranged carjackers running from the law. The Burlington Mall has been quite the hotbed of bizarre happenings these past few years.

I must say that stretch of 128 near the Burlington Mall is one of my LEAST favorite places to drive......

Choates, that sounds like the name of a very angry white wingnut.
