Rebecca Amaral, the former treasurer of Burlington Pop Warner, was charged with stealing $13,000 from the organization.

Police say Amaral, 41, stole cash from registration fees, and raffles—among other sources—over the course of two years and used the money to pay for groceries and bills, Fox 25 reported.

Burlington police Chief Michael Kent told Fox 25 that Amaral "stole money from the very children she was supposed to be helping,"

Awful ... She should be ashamed of herself...

I am a parent with one child still participating in Pop Warner. I am not on the Board or in a leadership role. I think it is important for the people of Burlington to know that the organization has done a good job responding to this event thus far. There is a new Board with new leadership at the top. There are new rules about how money is to be handled. There has been appropriate transparency with the parents. We need to come together as a community and support this organization. Please remember that these kids had money stolen from them when one of them asks if you will buy a raffle ticket next year. We need to support the new leadership and help this organization recover.

Awful that anyone would do this - thankfully the police said the money has been returned so the kids and the organization have not suffered financially form this event: Burlington police Chief Kent said. "I am, however, pleased to see the money returned to the program."

I cheered in this program for 6 years and trusted her through most of it. And to know that my younger sister was on the same team as her daughter, she must feel awful. A good handful of the money was raised BY THE KIDS. At least she gave it back and knows what wrong she has done.

If she didn't get caught, would she have paid the money back, or just keep stealing more?!
