A Burlington man has been indicted on charges alleging that he raped a female victim and then threatened to release videos of the alleged rape if she did not continue to engage in sexual activity with him, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.
According to a release from Leone's office, Do Kyun “Eddie” Kim, 18, of Burlington, was charged with rape (2 counts), indecent assault and battery (2 counts), and making threats.
He will be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on April 2 at 9 am.
“This defendant is alleged to have met the victim online, deceptively gaining her trust before arranging to meet her. Upon meeting her, he drove her to a secluded area and raped her,” District Attorney Leone said in the release. “Compounding this, the defendant then proceeded to threaten the victim with the release of a video of the alleged rape. The anonymity of the Internet allows for an environment that predators take advantage of and something for people, especially young people and their parents, to be mindful of when using the Internet to network socially.”
According to authorities, in November 2011, the defendant met the female victim online. The victim agreed to meet the defendant and, on November 21, 2011, the defendant picked the victim up in his motor vehicle. It is alleged that the defendant drove to and parked at a secluded dead-end street in Burlington. While parked, it is alleged that the defendant indecently assaulted and raped the victim.
Several weeks later, the defendant contacted the victim. It is alleged that the defendant told the victim that he had videos of the assault and threatened to upload the videos on the internet if the victim did not meet him to engage in further sexual activity.
The victim reported the rape and threats to the Burlington Police Department who immediately began an investigation in conjunction with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. The defendant was indicted by Middlesex County grand jury on March 20, 2012.
