Community Update

Well, I'm playing my annual waiting game.  My trumpet vine smothers the roof and sides if the shed.  The blossoms open in exquisite coral shades.  They're waiting too.

Where are the hummingbirds?  I know they're around.  Over the years, male and female hummers have visited the specialized bird feeder(a birthday gift from my family), the honeysuckle vine that has long since died, and even some charming anonymous weeds at the edge of our woods.

Humming birds are amazing creatures.  The wings flap so fast, the action is almost undetectable to the human eye. But the movement does create the "humming" sound that gives these tiny birds their name.  And they dart from flower to flower, quickly, deftly.

Around here, the only species is the Ruby Throated Hummingbird. However, the beauty of the males' plumage makes up for the lack of variety of species that live in other parts of the country.

So, I will continue to watch, and wait.  Humming birds are
summer creatures, here.  And it is, after all, July.
