Representative Ken Gordon, whose district includes Burlington, Bedford and precinct three in Wilmington, has called upon all residents to show their support to the congregants of the Islamic Center of Burlington, whose property was defaced with graffiti in a discovery made today.
“There is absolutely no place for this type of disrespect in our community,” said Rep. Gordon. “Especially on this 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s ‘We Have a Dream’ speech, we must stand together as a society and condemn these despicable acts.”
An overnight discovery revealed that someone has apparently spray painted the words “U.S.A!” over the sign that calls attention to the mosque.
“I find it offensive that someone has used a reference to our great country as a tool to send a message of intolerance,” Said Rep. Gordon. “Anyone who understands what “USA” really stands for would realize it is a symbol of peace, inclusion and respect for people of all faiths.”
Rep. Gordon plans to attend the 1 p.m. service Friday afternoon at the Mosque as a show of support and asks community members to show their support as well.
