Join an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service and Support People Helping People

Enjoy a Thanksgiving feast with fellow residents and help support those in need.

The following is an invitation from Rev. Rod MacDonald of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the Burlington Clergy Group:

The public is warmly invited to share in an interfaith service of thanksgiving on Monday, November 25, 7 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church, 335 Cambridge Street.

This longstanding annual tradition brings together neighbors of diverse faiths, united in thanksgiving for the blessings of creation and our American heritage of freedom.  The service this year will feature leadership from Hindu, Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities.

Worshipers will be invited to join in singing and in prayer.  Passages will be read from the scriptures of all four religions, in original languages and in English translations.  Special music will be provided by a combined choir, and by the praise band “Rockin’ Ruah,” from Temple Shalom Emeth. The message for the evening will be given by the Rev. Angela Wells, pastor of the United Church of Christ, Congregational.

A special offering will give neighbors an opportunity to give together for the financial support of the Covenant for Basic Needs, an emergency fund which dispenses small, one-time grants to Burlington residents.  The fund is a program of People Helping People and is administered by the Burlington Community Life Center.  It has been especially needed as a resource to help those dislocated by the recent fire at the Lord Baron Apartments.

This year’s host is The Presbyterian church, whose members look forward to welcoming the community.  A time for fellowship and refreshment will follow the service.
