Speak Out about Medical Marijuana

In November of 2012 Massachusetts voters
overwhelmingly approved An Act For The Humanitarian Medical Use Of
Marijuana.
Subsequently, the Town of Burlington enacted a moratorium on
such uses to allow time for the state Department of Public Health (DPH) to write
regulations, and to discuss the implications of the act and DPH regulations for
Burlington. This moratorium expires June 30, 2014.

On November 13th you are invited to the first in
a series of community discussions on the topic of where and how to site medical
marijuana facilities, both retail and cultivation operations, when an
application to locate in Burlington triggers local review. The gathering will
begin with an exposition of legal issues, given by Town Counsel, followed by a
synopsis of DPH regulations.

After these informational segments, we invite
audience members to speak up regarding where and how facilities should be
sited. We are expecting a large group so remarks must be brief (three minutes
or under). You may opt to submit written questions in advance to be read by the
event moderator. This is just the first in a series of talks, so if time runs
short on this occasion there will be future opportunities to "speak
up." The goal of these discussions is to submit a warrant article for Town
Meeting adoption in May of 2014. Please RSVP if you intend to speak at the
meeting on November 13.
